New Video: Presenting Sonic Battle Lost Ending Neo

sc1SFG Plays Fast, Looks Great…and It’s Japanese

If you thought Sonic fan game development was a hobby only the Western world enjoyed, think again.

As it turns out, the far east has a pretty good ace in the hole.  Relatively unknown until today, developer Ututuya, based out of Japan, showed off to SFGHQ forumers Sonic Battle Lost Ending Neo today.  It’s a 2D side scrolling arcade fighter, borrowing concepts from some of the best ones out there–like Street Fighter or The King of Fighters–and adding a Sonic Twist.

The present incarnation features 9 playable characters, including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge…and even Omega.  Combos are simple, tag battles are a possibility, and the objective appears simple–beat the crap out of your opponent, in various Sonic themed areas.  You could call it Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Sonic faithful…without all that Nintendo nonsense mucking things up.

There is a demo of Sonic Battle Lost Ending Neo available for download–due to the language barrier, we’ve provided a direct link.  To entice the download, have a look at two videos Ututuya posted. One shows off the team battle more, with another displaying Omega pounding Sonic to smithereens.

The game appears to be a part of a larger SFG development group in Japan called Shadowside, so much more can be expected from the group in the future.  They appear to have an RPG in the cards, so their progress certainly bears watching.
