New Art Released as Forums Open, Release Date Planned
The fan made project Needlemouse that nearly fooled the world–now dubbed Needlemouse: The Emerald Hills–is getting a little closer to a formal unveiling.
This week on their website, the splash page shows off the artwork you see here–a Tim Burton-esque landscape faintly resembling Green Hill, in beautifully rendered 3D. This, as creators Jono Forbes and Matt Schoen unveil the project’s forums, Facebook page, and Twitter feed this week.
According to a Destructoid interview with the devs published yesterday, this SFG aims to accomplish two things: Re-create the classic Sonic gameplay, and do it while applying, in their words, “radical changes” to classic Sonic visuals.
Further, the devs hope to have a finished product by next Spring, if all goes well. Though we don’t have a lot of new details on the SFG, if successful, such a quick turnaround of a product of this caliber would be unheard of, and could set a new bar in the Sonic fan game standard. That, of course, again depends on not just if the game looks good, but plays good.

I’m really impressed just by one level design already! Is its going to be in different perspectives? Nice. I just need a couple more screen, little bit of game play, demo of music, and I’m set and ready go man!

I think SEGA can do better then this… but who knows? Maybe the fan crap can beat Sonic team this time!

Man calm down I want to know and to see Project Needlemouse so bad too, but I prefer to wait some mouths (if they stayed a bit silence nobody can trash talk about nothing, even if the game is perfect [I think it will be
] just like they are doing with M&SATOWG) … and if they don’t reavel everything (just liek they did with Unlheased) when the game comes out we will be very surprised and HAPPY

Ugh, I’am sorry but that doesn’t look good at all to me, the palmtrees looks like tentacles of some sort and the textures are…strange and badly shaped.
Sorry but I can’t see what is so Tim Burton-esque in this pic. Looks nothing like his style.
