Sega Attempting Damage Control on Sony Doc Leak

Sega Security Slip UpTSSZ News Receives C&D, As Does TSS; Admin Defies Request

Sega has just removed the offending document detailing meeting minutes with Sony from their public FTP site.  But, just as when Sonic Unleashed was accidentally revealed to the world through the same venue, the company is now trying to C&D their way out of a sticky situation.

TSSZ News has just received an informal cease and desist letter via E-Mail from Sega of Europe community manager Martin Snelling regarding the publication of the story.  It reads:

Could you please remove the word document linked to in the following article http://www.tssznews.com/2009/09/22/secret-sega-doc-may-confirm-new-sonic-compilation/. This document is for internal company-use only and not for publication.

I would appreciate it if you could let me know once this has been removed.

This may have been sent in response to a formal request for comment TSSZ News put in to Sega of Europe employee Kevin Eva, known as ArchangelUK, asking to speak on details contained in that document.  To be clear, Sega is trying to have us remove information that the company itself first published, albeit inadvertently.  Because of this, TSSZ News will not adhere to Sega’s request at this time.

Neither will top Sonic site The Sonic Stadium.  That, at least, according to its webmaster Dreadknux, who acknowledged that he, too, received a request from Sega to remove mention of the Sega-Sony talks–including on the Sonic Stadium forums–and he won’t be complying, either:

We were asked by SEGA to remove these topics and posts, yes.

However, there’s no point in trying to remove these any longer (it’s posted all over the web), so go ahead and shoot.

UPDATE: TSSZNews has since learned that French site Objectif-Sega, one of the original sources to report this information, has been asked by Sega’s French division to remove mention of the Sega-Sony meeting memo.  It is unclear how many other journalists have received similar warnings.

The situation is quickly developing and could get very ugly, very fast.  TSSZ News will continue to give you updates on the matter as we can.

Why do Sega keep posting important stuff on an anonymous FTP server that anyone can access? It’s their own damn fault! Speaking of which if Sega are looking to hire someone who doesn’t mess up with this stuff I’ll gladly take the offer!

  7. serpx on September 22nd, 2009 3.54 pm

I think you guys should just remove the material in respect to SEGA, if you want them to, you know, continue respecting us.

  8. Dumbface on September 22nd, 2009 3.58 pm

Demand information on Project Needlemouse before removing the document.

  12. cgc on September 22nd, 2009 4.51 pm

Wow…Um. A repeat of the Unleashed slip up. SEGA needs to stop putting that stuff on the FTP. How did they even miss that.

“So boss new phantasy star trailer…” Boss “Yep”
“what about S&SASR trailers.” Boss “sure”
SEGA and Sony private document that reveals plans for future releases?” Boss “Whatever”
Later… “NO! You fool! Take that off!!!!!!!!”

    @cgc: HAHAHAHA!

  14. Sonikku Master on September 22nd, 2009 5.13 pm

What if they did this on purpose for hype?

  15. Treleus on September 22nd, 2009 6.14 pm

A purposeful slip-up posting of sensitive material on a public FTP site?

Y’know, I’m beginning to think that’s the game. It probably isn’t, according to these obvious indications, but honestly, if SEGA didn’t want this to happen, then they’d better fire someone from there web management team. This is the second time this has happened, man. What the hell?

Don’t take it down. Let’s see what they do about it. It’s their move.

  16. sonic41 on September 22nd, 2009 6.26 pm

Ahhh SEGA. I just have to chuckle when you slip up like this.

  17. Soul Gauge on September 22nd, 2009 9.18 pm

Well, it just wouldn’t be Sonic if someone wasn’t going ahead and leaking the next title, which there really shouldn’t be any point in doing, I mean, we’re patient enough to wait. It’s not like the past titles haven’t proven that, have they?

  18. THe InFOrMeR on September 22nd, 2009 11.45 pm

SEGA is probably finding more band-aid solutions to stop the document leak.

  19. Viewtiful Jeff on September 23rd, 2009 3.58 am

Weren’t the first screens of Unleashed leaked in the EXACT SAME manner a year and a half ago?

Come the fuck on, SEGA, you’re not fooling anyone.

Unless they’re telling the truth, in which case, I will laugh when they sue the fuck out of their own fandom!

  25. TailstheHedgehog on September 23rd, 2009 7.26 am

I would have thought TSSZ would have done the moral thing and taken it down. Sure it’s business, but we’re a fan community not businessmen – it would have been nice to see some compassion in the media. Naive much, hey?

Still, pretty funny that the same mistake’s occurred twice now.

  26. w2rockstar on September 23rd, 2009 11.20 pm

Whoa, SEGA, is this becoming a bit of a habitual thing? Well, I’m going to start checking your Public FTP daily! Good luck keeping Project Needlemouse secret for another week! ;)

  27. blueblur on September 24th, 2009 6.26 am

@w2rockstar: lol, yeah! ^_^ but you do know this could be for hype. lol.
