Well, I feel I must add to the discussion. I don't have WiFi so I don't update - I'm not big on the online experience - so I haven't updated for well over a year. Frankly, with the battery recharging and all, I just went back to playing PS2 and GC.

For Christmas though, I wanted to introduce my kids to the Beatles and bought Beatles Rock Band. After spending the better part of an afternoon unpacking all the equipment and putting it together, came the moment of truth. The disc was unrecognized by my Wii and in its place was System Update (on the menu).

So, I updated. This was taking what seemed an abnormally long time and then - BLACK screen - completely dead. I couldn't believe it. Since then it is just taking up space. I am SO annoyed - I've invested in extra controllers, balance board, instruments and whatnot and now it's all junk.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that dual layer discs can be tricky but really! I don't have a modified wii so I'm at a loss as to what the problem could be.

Nintendo France (where I live) hasn't bothered to respond to any emails so I'm REALLY disappointed - I always used to root for Nintendo against the more sophisticated systems.

Anyway, has anyone else had this problem with Rock Band or dual layer discs? And what do you do about it?

Regardless of whether you have some warranty or not, Nintendo will pay for your console if they are the ones who messed it up. Like with Brawl, it did something to my Wii, so Nintendo fixed it.

Well I guess it's a good thing my internet is off at the house huh? Knowing my luck, my Wii would've bricked.

I don't care about the updates. I'm not going to update my Wii to 4.2. My Wii isn't modded or something. But I don't want to brcik my Wii and what does the v. 4.2 anyway!?
I only update my system if I really need it. And most of the time, you don't need to update your system. If my Wii says I can't do somthing cus I haven't updated my Wii, I'll go and update my Wii, if not I'm not updating. I hate updates for menus if it isn't something really new and good that the menu needs!

See, this is the problem. Instead of getting the modders, they inconveniance their loyal customers. I don't bootleg new games out of principle, and I find it distasteful. But to be honest, it's not worth the effort to go after them.
