It Can Be Yours…But is the Price Right?
Today, Sonic Unleashed is available for you to directly download to your XBOX 360 hard drive.
The console’s Games on Demand service is offering it and two other titles today. This appears to be the base product, but some may not see eye to eye on the price point–$29.99. Indeed, there are physical copies of the game–even a few new ones–that sell for less in stores worldwide.
So, without any DLC presumably included, is $30 low enough for previous nay-sayers to give it a try? Kotaku’s Mike Fahey puts it in a humorous perspective (remember, his words, not ours:)
Just because we say you shouldn’t play Sonic Unleashed is no reason not to drop $29.99 for it and see why you shouldn’t play it for yourself!
Tell us if you think it’s a fair price point in the comments section below.

Interesting, though I already have the game via CD.
I still don’t see how the DEMAND version of the game will sell as much as, or even better than Sonic Unleashed by CD. Though I don’t think it IS a bad idea, personally, I guess.
I wouldn’t say the convienience of not needing to use a DVD is worth that. It is a great game in my opinion, but when you can get it so much cheaper on DVD I cant see any motive to buy it on Games on Demand.
Cool, too bad I’ve got it on CD.
I already got SU for the Xbox360 and PS2 hehe and its awsome ofcourse, I’ve made a research and I’ve discover that the demo game that is in number 1 on the XBLA is SONIC UNLEASHED so it’s natural that if 99%of XBLA gamers download the demo of SU, SEGA is “wise” for putting it on the XBLA Demand…
SONIC UNLEASHED IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES

But PROJECT NEEDLEMOUSE is going to be for shure the NUMBER 1 SONIC GAME OF ALL TIME you’ll see!
@SU: But think if Needlemouse will be bad? We can’t be so sure before it’s out. Like… Red Steel 2 looks awesome! But I’m still not sure. Are there enough depth in there? I don’t know! The same thing with needlemouse. It may sound awesome! But SEGA can still mess things up. They always get something wrong in there games these days! You can’t get away from it! Even if it’s 2D… things can go wrong. But now, I actually think Needlemouse will be a great game. I just want to tell you SU that we can’t say if it’s so good right now. I just say Sonic Unleashed was awesome, and Sonic team may have more of that awesomenes in… umm… their…. I don’t know where they have all their games! In compuers? I guess so… of course it’s computers… what else?
Why do I always write so much when I just want to say something so simple? Now you got something to think about!… you… you who actually reads what I’m writing! Thanks for reading!
Yo, SU
Anyway, when you say that “sonic unleashed is one of the best games”, do you really mean that? It’s just, I have it too, and I was rather underwhelmed. It was undoubtedly a step in the right direction for our blue friend, yes, but in what way was it *really* good? You know, if you’re gonna say you find it to be one of the best games ever, I’d like to know why.
Kudos, Z
ps – Mind if I ask how old you are? You don’t have to answer if it’s too personal, of course, but it’ll help me understand
I think it’s a fair price. But I don’t really like this download it thing. I want to buy it! And have the CD! I like that more….it’s….well I think it’s better since it…..yeah….BWAAAH! It’s easier to have it on CD, you can put it whereever you want and everything! So I prefer CD. Or disc……..whatever!
@Zink: I’m 14.
@Osnic: What!? You love to download games!
Sonic Unleashed was good. Just because the Werehog was there and Sonic lost his classic Spindash (I don’t care about that weird one in the Wii version-that’s not a proper Spindash) doesn’t mean it’s a bad game. I had lots of fun playing the daytime stages and I didn’t have to ignore flaws like in Sonic 06.
Well, it’s more worth the price to pay for it than Sonic ’06…and considering the game hasn’t been out for a year or so, it seems reasonable. The price’ll probably end up dropping in accordance to the price everywhere everywhere…I’d love for people to be able to get it about $10-25, but while that’s a cheap price for people to pay, and people are probably getting it for that game somewhere…it seems a bit low to be charging for a year old game.
And considering that they originally had to shell out money in order to play it in order to tell people that they shouldn’t play and why they should not play it…well, that pretty much sums up the fanboy opinion. It’s humorous AND insightful! :O
I paid, like, $50 Canadian for this at launch.
If I hadn’t already purchased it, I would now.
No question.
I know a bargain when I see one ~ well here in Aus, Unleashed is GENERALLY still above the $50 mark, I recently got Fallout3 for $23 on a sale. I would say the price is…just about right.
Sonic Unleashed was one of those games that at first i thought wasn’t very good and wasn’t on my list of games to buy. Then a friend lent me the game, i played it and found myself enjoying it. It took me at least an hour to start getting into it but it’s still in my collection now which i guess is a good sign. Anyways as far as pricing goes i wouldn’t say $29.99 (which is about £21.00 in my country) is worth it when you can pop into a preowned game shop or on ebay and get it cheaper. I managed to pick up my copy about 5 months ago for £8 (about $14) so to those of you who don’t own the game i would shop around before rushing to download it.
i think $29.99 is a fair price for it. its not godly and its not terrible. so i say its about right.
Wow, uncalled for Mike Fahey, uncalled for…
Anyway, if the Aussie price is actually $30, then I’d get it no doubt, because the cheapest I could find it for is $50 at EB.
Only if I had internet on my 360 I could buy this event thou I have it already but mine has problem evertytime I`m about to start the dark gaia it stops working…
What? This is like 20 bucks at Gamestop.
I guess expecting this to be like Steam price-wise was way too much to ask
Ah, still trying to make a quick buck off us, eh, SEGA? Figures.
$30 is ten dollars too many.
■Werehog:@ lol yes I actually read your coments, if they are short or long lool, just because In my opinion you are a good person, you always knows what to write, and I respect that a lot
, you’r right in what you are saying but, I can feel the energy coming from SEGA/SONIC TEAM they will make a 100% AWSOME SONIC Games, Unleashed was about 90% in my opinion I they will mix things up between the old school games (100% awsomeness and Unleashed 90%) hehe that will be great, wait and see bro
■Zink120:@ wussup man
, yhe I’m 17 and you bro?
So I’ve played all Sonic Games in the universe (except for Black Night and the new M&S2) lol, I’ve play since the great SEGA Genesis games, to Game Gear to the Xbox 360 ones (I only own a Sega Saturn (still hehe) and a Xbox 360, the others elements I’ve play from my friends and my cousin who got all of Sega Sistems hehe) and in my opinion Sonic Unleashed is one of the best Sonic Games you can find (the Werehog is cool, but ofcourse you, me and every body else like better Sonic him-self and his day-time-stages, but IN NO WAY IS SONIC UNLEASHED BAD!!!)
So don’t you people feel the nergy in the air saying PROJECT NEEDLEMOUSE the best game ever
hehe???!!!!
hehehe
I know I’m going to buy S&SASR (and it will be awsome no doubt) and it will help me anddle the sufering of waiting for Project Needlemouse… And when it goes out It will be PLAYING LIKE IF THERE’NST TOMORROW
@ SU
I’m 18 (nearly 19 though). Fair enough. I’m definitely picking up an “I love sonic” vibe from you, lol. While he very much is a cool dude, I really wouldn’t say that Unleashed was as good for me as it sounds like it was to you. The camera was a bastard, voice acting was horrible (tolerable in JP), tediousness of the hotdog challenges, poor frame rate, and no spin dash was an insult to me. (Sonic the HEDGEHOG <– They curl up into balls, SEGA! Have you forgotten why he's a hedgehog???) lol. There were lots of other little things that detracted from the experience too, but I shalln't waste your time listing them :-]
Ah cool, I see.
Yet believe me, despite all of it's many faults, I enjoyed it and played it loads. It's right up there with Uncharted, LBP and Fallout 3 on my play hours list. But why? I reckon it's just because I'm a Sonic fan, and that's what we do. We're the people that can still enjoy Sonic, even if it isn't actually any good.
With regard to the so-called Project Needlemouse, I hope it will be good, but I need some evidence. I'm giving SEGA the benefit of the doubt (which says a lot considering their Sonic offerings of recent years). I just don't think they can do it. You saw the trailer – "Speed returns". DOES NOT BODE WELL! It needs LESS speed! They're really trying to appeal to fans though, and it's tricky. As you obviously know, there's a huge divide in the community. There's folks who like Sonic when he had solid and fun gameplay back in the 2D days, and arguably the Sonic Adventure games too, and then there's the other fans (generally younger) who love his attitude, Shadow and Silver (uuurgh… :S) and above all, SPEEEEEEEEED!!!
(I'm in the first group, lol)
Wow, I sure have written a lot. In b4 "blog it", lol

Take care, all
Z
Yo, um. Kinda of never post here, so I don’t really know how it works. I’ve written a truly MASSIVE post, and it’s not showing up. Is there a word limit or something?
Thanks, Z :]
Zink120@: Man hell yhe I aprove what you have said, anad I’m in the first group too buddie, but If they make PN (Project Needlemouse) with the mechanicks from Sonic Genesis series and Unleashed I think they will make us (old school Sonic Fans) and the New school Sonic Fans VERY HAPPY
I’m a positive guy you see hehe
SEEEGGGGAAAAAAAAAAA
“SEEEEGAAAAA!”
When they had that at the start of the PN trailer, that made my day. Maybe there is hope after all. Optimism FTW, you wise man.
Why’d the price go up f they don’t have to pay for marketing, packaging or manufacturing? This is (one of the) reason(s) I don’t have an X Box, shitty Microsoft is shitty.
Perhaps so – I got it new for £12 (less than $20) from GAME. $30 is too steep, silly M$. But, at least it’s there for download, unlike on PSN. So pick and choose, they’re both silly.
