UPDATE: Call-in Date Pushed Up
Support has gained in the effort to bring what is presently a suspended Sonic fan film to official fruition.
It’s not Richard Kuta directly fronting the effort. But with his apparent initial blessing, it is another Sonic fan, Sonicthehedgehog360, organizing an effort to place a mass call-in to Sega of Japan beginning December 1st. (11/06 Update: The date has been moved up from December 5th to December 1st, which is a business day.) That, at least, is the call to arms plastered on the call-in’s official hub. Presently a showcase of fan works, the site promises to have details on how you can contact Sega of Japan and voice your support for Kuta’s work.
“I really saw some great elements in Kuta’s movie. Storyboards, story elements, voice samples, and the feel of the movie really hit me,” the organizer said on why he’s moving forward with the effort, even after Kuta indefinitely suspended development on the fan film. “I just couldn’t let a project go to waste from troll attacks.”
When the day comes, participants will get instructions on how to call in to SoJ via their computer. In the interim, Sonicthehedgehog360 is using the page as an outlet for other fan works, including music and art, with the first in a series of live Internet performances scheduled for next Saturday at noon, eastern time (and not this Sunday, as previously reported.)
It is a Kuta Aid, of sorts–even after Kuta swore off the project.
“I instructed (Sonicthehedgehog360) to cancel the call-in since the project is dead,” Kuta wrote in a comment on this site yesterday morning. “I sincerely have given up on this project and made my departure from the Sonic community.”
But Sonicthehedgehog360 says in an E-Mail to TSSZ News he did seek initial approval from Kuta to organize the effort–likely before the aforementioned comments were made. He also said that while Kuta has no involvement in the organization itself, there are context clues in the effort.
“The call-in site being ‘on’ says something about the status of the movie,” the organizer said, noting interest has piqued from hundreds of Sonic fans.
If the effort does make it to December 5th, we will follow up with those call-in details for those interested. But if nothing else, the effort shows that even if Kuta abandons the notion of a Sonic film, there are plenty of others willing to pick up where he left off.

@Sonichedgehog360 — I hope you get sued, thanks

So I guess the script you guys will be reading from is only 18 secs long? Unless you want people to start paying for the calls that is……
@zephyr
yeah…but… um… i never watch it… well not the whole thing.
they sound wierd… :p
lol.
but basiclly… lyk i said… they arnt big biz that can give them profit off that movie.
thay wont rly pay attention to it… <=/
@ Mysterious Guy Y: I was pretty much thinking all of what you listed about this call in. On top of that, only 17-18 secs per call? Ha. Sounds like the length of time for those annoying “The factory warranty on your vehicle has expired” calls that have been spamming the hell out of folks for months recently lol. Add on the obvious language barrier and you got yourself a good old nonsense call. XD
Also, if this bloke decided to stick to localizing it and calling SEGA of America instead I’d imagine both him and Kuta would end up with C&D orders. Kuta might not be “behind” it but obviously because it’s associated with his project, and especially after they warned him to not contact them about the project.
Oh well either way it’s bound to be lulzy so I’ll just sit back and enjoy the show.
@ Chrissy
Yeah, I know, their voices are terrible XD
I think this call-in thing is a little immature.
I mean, look at it.
It’s like when you were little and you really wanted this toy you couldn’t have, so you would annoy your parents until you could get. (in which good parenting tells your parents not to give in.)
@ Piyoko14
It is immature, but the kid running this thing can’t be older than 14 years old. He doesn’t know any better, so cut him some slack.
Fun Fact : As Kuta as admitted himself, most of his supporters aren’t hold enough to drive.
In my opinion, this is because most adults see through his facade.
@Atlas: If the Sonic360′s efforts are a flop, then yes, I might continue the fan film. However, Im entertaining to the idea of just giving the whole project to someone else while I act as creative consultant. If said person wants to make revisions on the script, voice actors he will have the liberty to do so. This way I can work on my own projects for my new company thats launching and I can periodically monitor the progress of the film.
Sorry to interrupt the ongoing discuss here, but the call-in service has switched to FreeCallPin.com. Callers will need a touch-tone phone, and will need to register to the forums for the up-to-date calling numbers. Anyone from almost any country will be able to call to SoJ and their Sega office for up to 5 minutes per hour for just their in-country rates.
To answer inquiries concerning the organizer:
Sonichedgehog360 is a college freshman and lifelong fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. His hobbies include video games, audiophile headphone listening, bicycling, and swimming. He’s an avid learner when it comes to electronics, calculus, and especially anything computer related.
@ Sonic360 – Talking about yourself in the third person makes you look like a nut job. Well more of a nut job given how this call-in is shaping up.
@Knothole: Of course you’re going to continue it. You have this interesting habit of not being able to truly “quit” anything.
“Winners are not those who never fail, but those who never quit.”
Just to clarify to the uninformed, speaking in the third person is used in professional settings all the time. That would include this call-in.
“Winners accomplish. Losers only talk about accomplishing” – Quote by Ron Notmadeupperson
@ Sonic360 – So it’s profesional when you spam this stupid thing in forums that could care fuck all about this movie project? You posted in places that hadn’t a clue who the hell you are or what the hell the movie was about and got zero responses and/or had the thread closed because it looked like you were spamming the forum.
Very professional indeed.
Can somebody post a link to the trailer? I want to see it before I say anything about the project.
Tristan, I’m starting to think you like this drama Kuta’s pity party has caused.
@Kuta
Oh so your talking to the fanbase again AND your thinking about another approach to your movie. And here I thought your family was threaten as well as your life. Bravo for your acting skills! bravo!
@ Tristan
I didn’t know this site was TMZ
@John – Exactly
@Not Surprised – I think Sonicthehedgehog360 is Kuta’s apprentice or something of that nature. You can already tell this by his unwarranted sense of self importance.
@Sonicthehedgehog360 – There is NOTHING professional about this harassing call in. Sega already said they weren’t interested in this movie, you and Kuta should respect their decision. On another note, I hope you aren’t judging the number of people who will call in by the hits counter on your site. Besides everyplace you spammed it, its also linked at ED.
@Unknownlight – You really can’t find it? Kuta and his minions spammed it everywhere. Just google “aknotholeresident” that should take you to the AB’s youtube page where the trailer is hosted. (I’m not direct linking that shitty thing here) Notice how he uses SatAM music because he was too lazy/unoriginal to have an original score composed.
@Aknotholeresident – Is using another studios copyrighted music in your project professional? btw, if you respond with “I got permission to use the music” I’m going to want to see proof.
Here’s a link to the trailer:

The S&D letter was a miscommunication. If anyone here is unsure of that, contact SoJ for yourself.
Next, one friendly call-in per fan to Sega isn’t harassment. It’s just a voicing of their opinion just like the posts here, except without the hate.
It’s not a misunderstanding. If anyone is unsure of that, just read the damn thing to begin with.
So the movie is up again. I’m not surprised.
Doesn’t this movie alientate the vast amount of children that only know Sonic from the games, or even Sonic X. A lot of older fans have already left the fandom. Those who watched SatAM when it was on are now, at least, 18. SEGA stated that they aim their games at kids, and a lot of the fans are kids. How is this not a SatAM movie, when it has SatAM characters? How can it be based off the games, when those characters weren’t in the games?
What happens if the kids go to the movies, and only recognize Sonic, Tails, and Robotnik (in which they would wonder why he’s not called Eggman). They would say, “Who’s Sally?”, or “Where are Knuckles and Amy?” Would they readily accept a new cast of characters they’ve never heard of?
Knuckles is in this movie, too.
Character design is based off of the modern Sonic game series. There is the Egg Carrier, Metal Sonic, the Chaos Emeralds, and a heavy influence from Sonic 1-3. This movie is not only inclusive of all Sonic fans, but helps to solidify Sonic’s beginnings.
@ Sonic 360 – I think you might need a dictionary/thesaurus by your side to read that C&D notice again, since it basically told Kuta to stop contacting SEGA (I.e. their employees, etc) about this stupid movie because they were seeing it as harassment. Constantly contacting someone about something they don’t want to hear about IS harassment.
They also stated in that notice that continued efforts would be ignored and could lead up to legal action being taken. Having a handful of folks call in on behalf of him = harassment, so I guess be prepared to be served with legal papers.
Yo!
Uh, questions for “Mysterious Guy Y”, “Tired of the Bullshit” and “Not Surprised”…
What I’m failing to grasp here, is why are you still posting on this topic? You’ve made it inherently that you don’t care about the movie, and you don’t like the two people involved who are posting here. What is it that you hope to achieve? Are you thinking that if you keep being rude enough for long enough that they’ll cancel? And why would you want them to anyway? If you don’t like the movie, don’t watch it – simple as! There are people who will watch it, and enjoy it too. If they want to make it, why shouldn’t they?
I mean, the sheer pointlessness, hypocrisy and childishness of your remarks makes my brain feel like it’s slowly oozing out of my nose! You deliberately skew and misunderstand pretty much everything they’ve said. Nothing they say can ever satisfy you! Have you noticed they’ve been keeping a tolerant and constantly polite tone while they’ve been replying to your endless slew of generally offensive remarks?
I’m not judging this film. It’s almost irrelevant at the point in the argument you’ve brought this to. I don’t care if it’s good or not, I never watched SatAM anyway (being British). I’m not judging, nor defending Richard Kuta and his team either. So there’s no point calling me one of his “minions” or part of his “pity squad”. I’m tired of your deplorable posting.
I just want you lot to drop it, and grow up. I don’t give a damn what you think about me. Although from the behaviour you’ve exhibited so far, expect this post will just bounce of your logic, or lack thereof.
Exactly… I don’t care if people don’t want to support the movie. What bothers me is this constant attacking of the movie, and even the people involved, trying to make both them and the movie fail. Thanks Zink120 for reminding everyone of the Golden Rule!
By the way, here’s our first live recording from the channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/sonicmoviecall
@Mysterious Guy Y: Your statement regarding sound score is laughably hypocritical. By your logic, you should go after the mass majority of youtube and newground Sonic videos that use Linkin Park and Nickleback songs. Im sure all those kids got permission straight from the band to use their material. Plus Michael Tavera, freely released the unused SatAM score for public domain use. Meaning its within anyones rights to use. And using the SatAM score has nothing to do with being lazy, its about triggering memories of the ole skool version of the franchise; which is the whole point of the first movie. One of the many reasons video game movies fail is cause they dont use the original music from the source material via games, cartoons and such. I even intended the intro credits to incorpoate the theme from Green Hill Zone.
@Piyoko14: You need to realize that Sonic began in 1991 not 1999 and it really irks me how people of this generation intentionally try to forgot about Sonic’s past. Sure many of the older fans left the fanbase, but it doesnt mean they have forgotten those cherrished memories of their youth. If people ages 25-30 discovered that a possible Sonic movie will incorporate elements from the classic cartoons, archie comics and Genesis games that will bring back the orignal fans and create an influx of newer ones that will get a well deserved history lesson on the franchise. When youre dealing with established property, its imperative to follow EVERYTHING that the franchise has produced. If the movie was soley based on Sonic X or just the modern games, thats alienating the older fanbase. The reason I stretched the story out into triology saga, is so its balanced and structured. You cant expect one movie to cram in every character from the last 20 years. It would be disasterious, like the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat movies. I spent years composing a storyarc that ties together elements from every continuity in a cohehive method. So in a way, the movies would be its own continuity blended from the familar elements of the comics, cartoons, and games.
I’d also like to add to the end of my last post, that I apologise for losing my temper towards the end. Rather… hypocritical, wasn’t it ;-]
@Aknotholeresident
By that logic, you’re admitting that your “grand” movie project is nothing more but another newgrounds flash. Good Job.
Also, SatAM isn’t canon, which is one of the many reasons why its ridiculous to try to merge it with any other Sonic series. I really like the way you play the crowds though, with the SatAM crowd you hype up how its a SatAM movie, and with the other sonic fans, you talk about how its NOT a SatAM movie. Only problem is, that this is the internet, and everyone can see you doing that.
I also find it strange that only the female freedom fighters made it into this movie. I’m not calling you a furry pervert, but I do find it strange. Since in SatAM the main characters all knew each other from childhood.
But man, I don’t know how you do it Kuta. You make a huge drama storm about how you are SUPER SERIOUSLY quitting the movie and the fanbase forever. Then you come back not 5 to 6 days later. I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again in hopes that it sinks in. This is why you have no credibility with the majority of the sonic fanbase, or the internet in general.
No worries… we all need a little chastising sometimes.
But… I guess some of us need a little more.
@A Knothole Resident: I didn’t say a movie based solely on Sonic X. I’m not one of the kids that only know him from Sonic X, I was just speaking for their side of the story. I’m more of an old fan.
But still, not even all of Sonic’s older fans watched SatAM when it was on. A Sonic movie wouldn’t have to based on a modern game, I meant that it should use characters that are familiar to everyone, such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Eggman. These are old characters that both old and new Sonic fans know about.
I have some questions for you: If SoJ approved your movie, but only if you made some major changes to the story and all, would you go through with it?
(this question doesn’t go with my earlier comment, just something I wanted to ask)
Would this movie only come out in America?
If this includes SatAM characters, would you need permission from DIC or Archie also?
This is funny… I could make a documentary about all the opposition there was in making this Sonic movie, and probably make a ton of money. Trolls, keep up the good work! I’ll have a juicy documentary to make if this movie makes it!

That is, if AKR is ok with it?
@Piyoko14
If it allowed him to make this movie, there’s nothing he wouldn’t agree to. Because this movie to him is ONLY about getting praise and attention. I seriously think he would even remove his precious Sally if they told him to.
@Sonic360
Of course AKR would be ok with it, its more attention for him. Btw, lets see if you have this attitude a month from now when your call in fails epically.
Boy, that troll is slipping. I said after the movie was made… whatever. “In LULZ we trust” just be messing with his head.
… Or epically succeeds. At least I’ll have a bunch of supporters that will look at you and will think “this guy must be possessed by a devil, or he has a mental disorder.”
Oh sorry PhantomCake, I was busy reporting you to livestream for streaming SatAM. The attitude I was talking about was you actually thinking this movie will ever be official. I hope that clears it up.
This is pretty fun… having trolls to play hardball with. It just makes the call-in more challenging. You’ll have to do more than that to scare me. I know plenty of people at my university who are more than willing to call-in. And they don’t even have to visit the website. That’s another point for sonichedgehog360 for ingenuity (or troll stupidity!).
If people called in for the movie, what would happen if people called in against the movie?
I have a feeling SoJ would need a lot of aspirins…
Sorry, but no… you’ll have to do much better than that!
That’s why I’m keeping the call-in info in the forums
And you could only get that by snail mail– SoJ/SoE numbers are unlisted!
@Sonic360 – For an adult you sure double post alot………
I like how you assume
A. That trolls can’t get the same phone numbers you have
B. That they need YOU to contact SEGA.
Prove it to me!
@Sonic360
Very well,
Sega of Europe in London, England: 011-44-181-995-3399
Sega of Japan: 011-8135-736-7720
Sega of Germany: 011-494-0299-380
Sega of France: 011-331-4662-1212
Pretty good, but some of them are wrong, and I’m not telling you which ones
@Sonic360
So wait, you are actually calling Germany and France as well? lol
Maybe… or maybe not. You’ll have to join my site’s forums to figure this one out.
