Flynn on Rotor’s Sexuality: “Not Even Worth Mentioning”

RotorArchie Writer Addresses Penders Intent for 1st Time

Ian Flynn, current writer of the Archie Sonic comics, has in effect dismissed the alleged outing of Rotor in the series.

Speaking over the weekend as part of a Q&A wrap-up from fans, Flynn said that despite any intent or build up there was by former writer Ken Penders to reveal the walrus as the Sonic universe’s first openly gay character, it won’t be a plot point under his watch.

Flynn even went so far as to outright deny that any hints were dropped, as Penders suggested:

Not even worth mentioning. There was absolutely no canonnical build-up to Rotor’s sexual preference, regardless of what one of the writers might have intended at some point. It’s a interesting piece of behind-the-scenes trivia, but it has no bearing on the book.

Flynn’s comments may help settle an emerging debate among Archie followers as to whether just the intent by Penders can be considered canon.  The initial certainly has sparked discussion among our readers and throughout the general community, and we invite you to continue that discussion with this new information in mind in our comments area.
