Does that Make the Effort Any More Believable?
How far can a campaign go to promote change if its basis solely rests on words and trust?
It appears those rallying to include NiGHTS in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing under the premise that the Sonic Team character is out are about to find out.
Since Thursday’s story ran, principal organizer DiGi Valentine of NiGHTSIntoDreams.com has publicly stated the sources giving him cause to charge forward with the campaign will never be publicly disclosed. TSSZ News has learned up to four inside sources may have tipped off to the trouble, but those who know of the sources aren’t exactly sure of who they are.
“Why should I have to be the one to put myself in to further deep water than I’m already in when all you have to do is ask around,” DiGi wrote Friday as a comment on our original story, taking to task this site and this reporter. “Surely you must have sources of your own. Why not ask them to see if my campaign is bullshit instead trying to get me to put myself in more shit than I’m currently in.”
Where DiGi and supporters allege concern is in the exposure of an inside source. Were a name or division to be dropped, heads could roll, and employees could be terminated. Though the concern is valid, it has been the long standing policy of TSSZ News to keep sources anonymous on confidential information, so long as the information is accurate. Steps are always taken to ensure the process does not compromise either the integrity of the information nor the primary individual who is responsible for it.
Despite this assurance and repeated requests to send a primary source affirming this information (with the promise of a retraction if complied with), DiGi and the campaign would not budge…not for us, or anybody.
“If I won’t even tell (my supporters) I sure as hell ain’t telling TSSZ,” DiGi wrote on the NiGHTS community forum.
Where support continues is in DiGi’s track record. DiGi Valentine and co-NiD fan site staffer TRiPPY are known for having received advance knowledge of development on NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams months before the general populous did. It is on that faith that many are able to put their support behind the campaign.
“This isn’t just about NiGHTS not being in a game,” wrote NEMi-212 on our site Friday. “This is about NiGHTS being forgotten and cast aside like many times before. We had to wait over a decade to see our beloved jester return in a new game. We don’t want that to happen again.”
But for those who blindly support the imitative, there are just as many who want to see proof.
“Once I had sources and was branded as someone who spreads rumours,” wrote Starlight Rage Zone on the Sega forums. “Which is why you have to be careful with this type of thing. If you don’t show the sources it normally means people won’t listen.”
And that leads to this: Will your support of this campaign come down to faith of those who organize it, or facts that can’t be confirmed? It is a tough call, given the reliability of DiGi. You’re welcome to debate it in

“This isn’t just about NiGHTS not being in a game, This is about NiGHTS being forgotten and cast aside like many times before.”
Like they forget to put him in Sonic Riders (games from a different franchise I might add) twice and Sega Superstars twice and even an extremely minor cameo in Shadow? Yeah, clearly they forgot about the guy.
Unless you have absolute evidence that he’s not in, please stop preaching to us to have him in DLC.
Absolute evidence that you’ll be willing to give us, that is.
Why is Digi keeping his sources confidential any different to TSSZ doing the same? Why should TSSZ be privy to the source’s identity any more than anyone else ever is to the identity of TSSZ sources?
Soul Gauge: what are you talking about ?Night’s was in both sonic riders games and both sega super star games
@ sonicsmashkirby
Sarcasm.
SuperSawnyc : oh well then don’t i feel dumb….
A purple thing isn’t in a crossover game.
Deleted my comment? I must have touched a nerve.
Source confidentiality is key to any facet of journalism, be they fansites or big name news reporters, as anyone in the business knows. There are so many legalities and potential lawsuits involved, it’d make your head spin!
Given DiGi’s track record, which was clearly outlined in the article, I personally have no reason to doubt. In the past, he has revealed details as soon as he was able to without getting his pants sued off, and I don’t think this time will be any different.
I know that NiGHTS is going to be back in Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing 3 (A DS2 exclusive title) I won’t reveal my source but they also realized that Sonic Unleashed would feature running and jumping before anyone else did.
Even if the source/claim is left with little to no belief, it’s still worth a try to get Sumo Digital to be aware about this in favor of having NiGHTS be a DLC at the very least, if the worse comes to worse with his (possible) absence. Although I think Wii owners may end up getting less of a benefit if it turns out that Sumo Digital decides to greenlight the idea of having DLC’s in order to please the fans who own the 360 and/or PS3. And I kind of doubt they can postpone the game to add in these last minute efforts.
Dr. Eggfang : What are you even talking about ?
Dr.Eggfan@: man what are you even talking about, Darn it! lool
I just want to see another Nights game, Nights is a really great character but he only has 2 games in his history (one for the Sega Saturn, and the other for the Wii) and that’s a bit bad! They should make more Nights game (for the Xbox360 too lool).
After the great PROJECT NEEDLEMOUSE, Sonic Team and SEGA should concentrate in two things, 1º- start developing the big next Sonic game
(or make a Sonic Adventure collection (or remake) for the Xbox360/PS3, and 2º-Make a Nights game (the 3rd in the franchise)!
SEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
!
Off topic, but I always see NiGHTS as a girl. xD Its voice sounded girlish in NiGHTS into Dreams, and its gender is always left ambiguous so…
Anyway – back to discussion!
Uh…Tristan….wouldn’t this be better served as a RESPONSE to DiGi’s comment, rather then a….”news” story? That basically seems to be what this is.
@nuckles: Come on dude, you know he’ll use ANY excuse to start some community drama and claim it as news.
Boy, I sure want to see Sonic in Sega and NiGHTs All-Star Racing.
Lol, the whole “OMG! NiGHTS isn’t in S&SASR!” thing is silly. Whatever happened to SURPRISE?
I mean by the time a game comes out now, you know everything about it. What the story is, how it plays, the soundtrack, when the DLC comes out and the ending of the game.
I mean with the exception of the Arbiter in Halo 2, I cant think of another game that had a hidden extra that wasn’t spoiled by the press.
They didn’t forget NiGHTS in Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Riders, Sonic Riders Zero Grav, Sega Superstars Tennis and I doubt that they will forget him/her/it now.
Honey from Fighting Vipers is fine too.
They were claiming they knew about Journey of Dreams 9 months in advance, even though they only started talking about it at the same time as any other fansite or news source (they claimed they “had to keep quiet” but they “knew”) and much of the information they were spreading at the time was inaccurate: http://www.nightsintodreams.com/NiD/violet/journey/ofdreams.htm
@Tailsthe Hedgehog. I also do thought of NiGHTS as a female. Due to her voices of NiD and NJoD. I can’t wait to see her driving in the race with the rest of these guys. I’m positive that NiGHTS will make in the roster.
