First ASR Screenshots for Nintendo DS

Continuing our incredible look inside the recent ASR playtest in France–and with help from our friend Fox Gungrave at Eversonic–we can show you for the first time screenshots from the DS edition of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.

As noted in the Q&A, the tracks will be significantly altered for the portable edition, and that is reflected in the five shots below.  But also reflected is how Sumo Digital is still attempting to keep the spirit of the tracks consistent throughout all platforms–you can see elements Seaside Hill, Curien Mansion, and others quite easily.  You’ll also get a look at how the character models–and their cars–will look at the Nintendo DS.

Have a look below, and give us your thoughts in the comments section.  Tomorrow morning on TSSZ News, we have a special Thanksgiving treat–some character art was released as a part of the powwow.  Some of it’s old, some of it’s new.  But all of it’s clean, and most of it is in incredibly high resolution.  Be sure to come back tomorrow morning for those, but if you just can’t wait, Eversonic has what we’re talking about now as part of their ASR feature from the playtest.

    The DS version looks good

Oh my… The models and environments look like they came straight out of Sonic R.

In other words, this is looking pretty good. But, I’m still not pleased with their decision to put Sonic in a car. Unless it were for… Certain reasons. *wink wink.*

    @ GREG THE CAT

Didn’t they start out with the idea of them running but it just turned out to be a huge cluster f***?

@Greg the Cat: Knuckles kinda scares me. But considering you’re mentioning Sonic R, a lot more things might be scaring me…..No….please….I don’t want to feel the sunshine….

    YES!! ABOUT DAMN TIME!

…Well, there goes all my pent up excitement for this version. At least it’s not hideous (It’s good; not the best, but not downright ‘slap your mother/kick a puppy’ ugly. Knuckles’ head and Sonic’s noodle arms are a bit off-putting)

Wow! I am impressed by the detail! If it runs at 60 fps, it will upstage Mario Kart DS!

I just hope the raceway isn’t so small as it looks in those screens.

@GREG: He’s in a car because they couldn’t make Sonic on foot work properly. And it’s just not balanced for a foot racer in a kart racing game.

My sisters are getting a DSi. They may be interested in this version.

Has anyone seen an XBOX 360 image? If so, please give me the source.

@Greg the Cat: Okay, the reason that Sonic would be in a car, if one were to make an accurate guess, would probably be the same reason why he’d be on a snowboard, or a hang-glider; for fun!
