Release with Game’s Launch Next Year
If the news of the figurines wasn’t enough to satisfy your action figure appetite for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, perhaps a more appropriate forum would suffice…like radio-controlled cars, and slot car models.
That, too, will be a part of the marketing blitz for ASR, as it’s been announced that racing toy specialist NKOK will be making special sets based on the series. There are no pictures yet, but both the RC and slot car models will be available to coincide with the game’s launch, which is still slated for early next year.
Many may be familiar with radio controlled racing, but slot cars are a bit different…and more competitive. Slot cars have pins or blades extruding from the bottom. The car is are placed within a groove on a specially designed track. From there, it links to a power area, that links to players’ handheld speed devices. Those devices are what’s used to get power to the cars on the track. Varying levels of power can be applied to the car, and it’s a good thing, because going too fast into a sharp curve could spell disaster.
Slot car racing has become more of a niche hobby in recent decades, though competitions around the world in the sport do occur.

This game is a big deal. Does anyone know why they’re making this game such a big deal? I mean, thinking about games like Tennis all-stars or whatever it was, I don’t recall close to it being as big of a deal as this is being made.
It’s mainly for kids (and also old SEGA fans apparently) who love Sonic and also race cars. I remember when I used to have a massive stock of race cars and race tracks. Good times.
@serpx Maybe because they want the game to sell well? Superstars Tennis didn’t sell very well.
We want the game to sell well too, otherwise we get no DLC characters.
I knew RC versions would get made
That’s funny! Didn’t I just make a post wishing for this a few articles back? Is Sega following my posts or something? Okay, I wish that there were radio-controlled Tornado airplanes!
RC versions YESA! i was just thinking about these since the figures were announced. great news
also: “The car is are placed” made me smile.
@serpx: I was just about to say that. I still don’t understand why Sega’s making a cart-racing game such a big deal. It doesn’t make sense…where’s the “real” games?
@Unknownlight: In limbo
Yeah! I want the slot cars, even if i’m a tween
