If So, Don’t Expect a Free Ride
A post on Sega of America’s Flickr account is hinting that Sonic comics may soon be available on select mobile devices.
The post was made earlier this week and then quickly buried with the ASR information onslaught. Showcasing an autographed copy of Sonic #200 by Patrick Spaziante, the description reads, in part:
Word has it that you’ll also be able to directly download Sonic comics via iVerse in the near future!
It’s the first such hint of such availability, and there is a bit of precedent. iVerse already has several main Archie series editions available both separately and via its iVerse Comics mobile app for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. A similar platform is also being developed for phones that use the Google Android platform, but is not yet available.
If it happens, don’t expect to get Sonic comics for free. iVerse’s main platform is subscription based, meaning you’ll still have to pay to view each issue on your phone. Several Archie issues are available outside of the platform on iTunes, but at a price of up to $1.99. Sonic comics usually run $2.50 a pop.
Still, it’s an interesting development if true, and it will allow Sonic fans to carry their comics on the go if desired. We’re treating this as rumor for now, but we’ll keep track of anything new–the prospect certainly doesn’t look farcical.

um… I hate archie and could care less but… um…
When he says “Word has it that you’ll also be able to directly download Sonic comics via iVerse in the near future!” that officially makes it NOT a rumor and FACT.
We’re still going to treat it as rumor until we get something resembling a formal announcement, preferably from Archie Comics. You know how people like to jump down our throats for bunk rumors! =)

I hate the Archie comics! They make Sonic really lame….
I love the comics, it’s more in depth than the games will ever be.
And “Sonikku”, have you read the recent ones? It’s not the ones from 14 years ago, where it was like Looney Tunes. They’re going out of their way to make it more similar to the games, with actually stories.

While I haven’t read many Archie Sonic comics, I believe many people hate it as it makes the Sonic universe like a weird soap opera.
I would love if STC was being put on mobiles, THAT would be awesome
A soap opera? Hmm….sorry, I just don’t see it. Maybe because it an a storyline to it or something? I dunno.
Also, one more thing. Why do something like this? It’s pretty pointless. I don’t find this easy to believe at all. Why make them available on phones and junk? It’s not like they stopped selling them and are impossible to find anymore, especially with the Archives series and stuff. And why would they be cheaper than the actual books?
Oy, I don’t know anymore.
i believe the comics put people off due to the large ammount of characters (NOT from the games) but I still enjoy them because some old faces pop up you might recognise (like gamma for example!)
id love these on phone but my phone sucks XD
I guess that makes a bit more sense to me. I still don’t like the idea of electronic books. It’s not the same feeling as the real thing.
@BlackHawkOmega: Money my dear boy!
Reading comic books on your phone? Somehow I find that… strange… I mean it’s one thing to read it on a PC, but on your phone? o_O
You’re telling me. Ever try reading manga on an iPhone? Dang!
