Ban Hammer for Hope Raises Over $200

A Good Community Turnout for Charity

You hate me!  You really, really hate me!

The final tally is in on the TSSZ News / Sonic Retro 2009 Holiday Inflammatory Ban Hammer for Hope, and we’re pleased to announce a final fundraising total of $207.70.

All of that money went directly to Child’s Play, and however small one may think it is, it adds up, and in total, this fundraiser helped contribute to another record year for the gaming charity.  Today on Penny Arcade, the most recent tally was updated to reflect a total of over one and a half million dollars donated for the year.  A drop in a big bucket, perhaps–but that bucket will help many sick children’s lives be a little brighter in hospitals around the world.

There was, of course, an advantage in donating through the Ban Hammer for Hope–Ban Hammers!  When all the math is worked out, I will be banned from Sonic Retro’s forum for 3 and a half days.

Now that there’s a barometer on which to measure, we can tweak, refine, and hopefully bring better incentives for you to participate and donate in 2010.  The jury’s still out on whether this fundraiser will repeat, but it is certainly under consideration.  We thank all who donated in this fundraiser.

Tristan, do you even post often enough in Sonic Retro for the ban to have been any use?

Almost as much as you waste on videos games in a month. Impressive!

Maybe next time you should just do physical labour (actually doing something) instead of raising some pocket change for a feel-good moment.

Physical labor is hard to do in relation to an Internet community / charity initiative. It would be a little different were we a hyperlocal news site, but we’re not. But I have participated in some community / labor intensive things over the course of the year outside of the realm of this site, including revitalizing a couple inner-city rec centers…if that makes you feel better. =)

I certainly don’t spend $200 a month on games. I’d be bankrupt going at that rate!
