It all Comes Down to Twitter
It is not quite the same story on a different day with the week long Needlemouse trivia contest Sega’s putting on. Thought that bonus was a lock? Don’t be so sure.
Today, Sega cut Shade and Amy from the list of playable characters in Project Needlemouse. One of them was a shoo-in; the other may not have been so. Sega’s regular groove of cutting two a day may yield a situation where multiple characters are left standing. Amy’s cut suggests that if it isn’t just Sonic, whoever’s left could be out of left field. Might the bonus be doubling up the cuts Friday?
That’s to be determined, and a bonus isn’t set in stone, since that target of 1,000 correct answers wasn’t achieved on Sega forums yesterday. Now, Sega is asking for 1,000 responses to these questions via Twitter as a base for Thursday–with 1,250 required for that third bonus point.
Here are the questions:
1: If you locked Sonic 3 onto Sonic and Knuckles, what was the largest amount of emeralds you could collect from special stages?
2: Yuji Naka is credited with much of Sonic’s history, but who is the man that actually designed Sonic?
3: During his creation, what was the Japanese name originally given to Sonic?
There is one other option for the bonus: If SEGA and/or “needlemouse” become trending topics on Twitter, the bonus is automatically in effect.
Can it happen? We’ll be here to find out as we cover the action and the reaction through Friday and beyond.

What if this whole contest has just been SEGA pulling our legs? They don’t usually tell us which characters are in a game all at once, but instead gradually until the game is released.
For all we know, tomorrow they could just leave Big, Froggy, and “Sonic’s new friend Mr. Needlemouse.”

They’re going to take away two more….and ther’s five up there…or are they going to take more than 2 on friday or whut!? Well, I don’t really care so much. But it would be intresting to see which characters is in the game. Even if this is kinda stupid, just say who it is! But they like to play with us…I guess.

I love Sonic and he’s one of my favorites but I don’t want to play just him for the story (if there is one). Thats just plain boring. Plus there already two recent games where you play just as Sonic for the main part of the game.
I wanted Amy and Shadow to be playable. But now that Amy’s cut from the list, I highly doubt Shadow is in this game either.
I don’t hate Big or Froggy but I’m not at all interested to play as them. Mr Needlemouse as a character’s name seems too far fetched to actually be a character in a Sonic game.
From a scale from 1 to 10. I was at a 10 from curiosity and anxiousness about the game in the beginning of the week. Now I’m at a 2. I have a twitter account but I’m not going to participate this time. Soon or later all the info will be released, one way or another.

It’s funny how in the beginning people were hoping for Shadow to be cut, and since he’s not cut, they’re practically begging for him in. (Tho with competition like Big and Froggy, it’s not surprising).
I’ll still laugh if Froggy makes it.
ok this breaks a huge gap in my theory of who is gonna be in it…. and now i’m actually really intrested yet still hesitent! if amy was removed then why the heck would shadow be in it? amy, shadow, knux, and tails are usually made the main characters next to sonic…..and since amy was removed…that leaves shadow which doesn’t make sense really cuz if amy isn’t in it and tails nor knux was mentioned then why would shadow be included? oh and why don’t i mention the other characters you wonder? cuz big and froggy just don’t fit…AT ALL. shade is from sonic chronicles, so why would she be in this RETRO revision type game…OMG….i bet sonic will be the last removed from the list leaving…mr.needlemouse! omg!
lol! wouldn’t it be AWESOME (if its a clip that SEGA reveals when the contest is done) if the video clip would be sonic from the first sonic running with a black backround, then a flash of light streaks past sonic, turning him into the sonic from sonic 3D blast, then another streak of light blows past him turning him into sonic from sonic R, and another streak turns him into sonic from sonic adventure 2, another streak turns him into sonic from sonic riders, and then another turns him into sonic from sonic unleashed! sonic screetches to a hault, looks at us with his big ‘ol smile from the side of his mouth, and holds his arms out! the camera fixes onto sonic’s hand and a bright light apears from his hand, then the same goes for all the rest of him untill BOOM!!! the mist clears revealing that sonic……has changed……back into his old form (mr.needlemouse!) he wags his finger and zooms off the screen. the camera struggles to keep up to him as he runs faster and faster and when the camera does catch up, the backround suddenly changes to the greenhill zone!!!
sorry i’m just really thinkin outside the box…. well whadda you guys think about the trailer that i just made up in my head? would it not bring hardcore sonic fans to tears of joy!?
Beautiful Amy Rose is gone? This is really disappointing. I really wanted to play as Amy Rose in HD. Amy Rose is beautiful, and I dream about her being my girlfriend.
But if Amy is removed from playable characters? I don’t know this makes me sad.
The first blog said playable characters cast Amy might be in in the game but not as a playable character.

This is pretty much insane. You don’t cut characters like Shadow, Big, and Froggy, but you cut off the one who was in the classic days of Sonic known as AMY ROSE?! What in the world is this?!
I hope this whole thing is a joke because this is sounding ridiculous already. At this point, I’m hoping it’s just Sonic in this game.

Just got the latest update from SEGA’s Twitter page. We just need to keep posting #SEGA in out tweets in order to help make it trendy. But we have to clock in at 100 #SEGA tweets every 30 seconds (and your tweets need to be different), so you’ve gotta post fast, often, and together as a group. Do that, and #SEGA is a shoe-in to get on the trendy topics list, which means a bonus point for us!

It really sucks that Sega cut Amy from this game, now i’m fully convinced that this damned game will just be another sausage fest while at the same time introducing sonix’s new boyfriend (sorry, it’s just that i”m really pissed off).
As i promised in the forums even when i’m very thankfull to Sega for the Macross game fro PS2 developed by AM2 & will continue to support them i will never forgive them for this. Cutting Amy, an old timer that can be traced back to that japanese comic where she first appeared, is something that tells me this is not the retro Sonic game we expect to get. It is one of those thing that just leaves a scar in my heart and just proves that Sonic team keeps treating the poor little kid like garbage and it just makes me mad, it just sickens me.
The only thing right now that can cheer me up is that by the last days of november i will destroy both Sonic and Sahdow using the pink cute little hedgehog on SASASR.
But seriously Amy deserved better than this…

I know how you feel. She deserves WAY better than this; especially over Shadow the Overrated. I probably won’t forgive them for this, either, unless she makes an appearance in the story (if there is one).
Until then, I might as well keep playing SA1′s Amy story. That’s the only way to play as Amy these days…

Lucky for me there is a little trilogy called Sonic Advanced (the first being IMHO the real Sonic 4, while on the second one she owned everyone , the third one was OK)
Those games were trash, horrible sprites, gimmick characters like cream and amy were no fun to play as, music is very low quality, level design is hold right to win, I can go on and on.
Will people shut up about wanting X character in? Only Sonic is important, darnit. This is a Classic style game, perhaps even a remake or rendition of Sonic 1 in HD. So shut up. Quit whining, quit bing the impossibly to please fanbase you are, and accept getting what you guys had been asking for for years: Classic Sonic.

Much of what you said could also be applied to the Megadrive games and still they’re so much more fun than the over-budget 3-D ones (only current exception would be world adventure, minus kratos the werehog)

Eggfang, yes Amy played like the least like Sonic in those games, and many wouldn’t find Amy that fun to play as. But that’s not why we want Amy in.
We want Amy Rose in because she is cute. She may have gameplay that isn’t as fun, but she was cute and many Sonic fans just like to see her.
As for negative reactions toward this list? Well, when someone “adds” by saying what things they’ll be getting, that tends to cause happiness. However, this list seems to be “what characters probably won’t appear.” It’s like telling someone; what they; WON’T be getting for christmas.
If you tell someone what they won’t get for christmas, they may be less happy than if you told them what they would be getting. It’s kind of like a newspaper with the words “bad news” on it. Imagine someone says they’ll give you money, but instead of giving you 10 dollars, they say; “you won’t get 11 dollars from me.” That’s like what this list is like..
They removed Amy and kept Big, what is the big idea.

Uh……… Everyone here realizes that Amy was in Sonic CD, yes? Thus, she was not in Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles, correct? WHAT IF… That’s hinting at something that you guys don’t realize yet?
From what it’s looking like, this will be Sonic 4. And since Amy was in Sonic CD, ZIP! Since she would add nothing to the gameplay, they cut her.
Only thing that would surprise me up to this point is if SEGA even decides to mildly cater to the SatAM fans in this game. Again, I am being hopeful for that kind of a surpirse, but with or without Sally, this is beginning to sound like a Nostalgic game worthy of the Sonic the Hedgehog name.
I want to see Sonic and Shadow together in a good game.
