Multiple US Retailers Reporting ASR Price Cuts

This, With Launch Day a Month Away

When Sonic fans–at least those in North America–set out to purchase Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing next month, they may be treated to a nice discount on nearly all editions of the game.

This story started with a news tip from Skai Cyan, who informed us of Gamestop’s price cuts for ASR.  The retailer’s website reflects price points of $49.99 for the next-generation versions of the game–both on XBOX360 and PS3.  That is atypical from a normal $59.99 price point.  Further, the Wii edition of ASR has a $39.99 price point listed–a nice change from the usual $49.99 prices of new releases.  The DS edition sits at $29.99.

But that’s not all.  We did some digging and found that other U.S. retailers are following suit.  Toys ‘R’ Us also reflects the same price points for ASR.  Meanwhile, Wal-Mart shows XBOX 360 and PS3 editions of the game with a $49.82 price, but there’s no cut yet for the Wii edition.

It’s not yet clear whether UK retailers will offer the same price break to consumers.

So, with about a month to go until launch day, fans–and their wallets–have something more to look forward to when purchasing the game.  Thanks to Skai Cyan for helping us get the ball rolling with this story via our News Tips system.  If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.
