On Twitter, Sega Addreses Needlemouse Platform Hints with More Mystery

“Nothing is ever confirmed until we confirmed it”

In recent days via its Twitter feed, Sega vaguely addressed growing sentiment that the next Sonic, dubbed Project Needlemouse, may be a download only affair for XBOX live and the Playstation Network.  In doing so, community managers reassured that, in their views, nothing is set in stone.

“Nothing concrete is really known about the game yet is it? It could be on anything!” reads one Tweet from January 15th.  It is one in a series of brief back and forths between the managers and Twitter user traditionalme, an apparent newcomer to the social media landscape.

On January 15th, the user issued a series of questions through Twitter to Sega on the state of Project Needlemouse–this before the company unveiled concept art to the masses.

“Nothing is ever confirmed until we confirmed it,” said another Sega tweet, once traditionalme cited a third party story detailing download only hints for Needlemouse.

Therein lies the problem.  Twice now, once in October and once earlier this month, comments from Sega employees have at least hinted at the possibility that Project Needlemouse will be exclusive to XBLA and PSN.  There have indeed been no confirmations, but then again, there hasn’t been much of anything to concretely speak of regarding the game, now four months after that trailer was released and it was disclosed the next Sonic would be an HD affair.  Though the Wii can handle 16:9, it is not an HD console.

When traditionalme inquired point blank on whether Project Needlemouse would make it to Wii or WiiWare, Sega officials’ social media response simply was “We have not announced that information.”

So, the door leading to at least a Wii presence for the next Sonic may be cracked open a little bit, but as with many details on this project, much remains to be revealed and speculated about, including this aspect.  If nothing else, Sega may be distancing itself from those previous remarks, and for Wii owners that could be a good sign.  Thanks to Playx4 for sending this in via our News Tips system.
