Admit Knowing About It, But Only Amid Campaign
This morning, the chairs of the Don’t Forget NiGHTS campaign for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, DiGi Valentine and TRiPPY, issued official statements regarding yesterday’s discovery of NiGHTS as a flag bearer in the game. They did so via the NiD.com forums.
As part of the statement, DiGi Valentine admitted he’s known of the cameo for a while–calling it a “leak”–and disclosing that sources told him about the cameo amid his campaign. He believes the Don’t Forget NiGHTS support yielded the cameo, but conceded NiGHTS’s appearance may not bode well for DLC, now referring to such prospects as “expensive” and referring to this cameo as a possible “Plan B” on Sega and Sumo Digital’s part.

OK. It leaked. The bloody cameo leaked and now there’s another sh!t storm I’ve got to swim through e_e
First and foremost, I knew about this cameo. The same people who told me NiGHTS was not in ASR period came back and said NiGHTS has turned up as the Flagman. It’s why at various places I posted *waves a flag* in some of my comments. The Don’t Forget NiGHTS Facebook group had a news post by me where i state ‘for future reference – *waves a flag*. I knew about this.
When did this cameo come in to place? Being honest, I’m not too sure. What I do know is nothing involving NiGHTS was present in ASR and then during this campaign he turned up. The game was very far along in development so NiGHTS as flagman could not have been planned from the start and was introduced during end of production.
Did we cause the cameo? Yes, I believe we did.
Why is NiGHTS the flagman and not DLC (which is what we’ve been asking for)?
My only guess is this is a ‘plan B’ perhaps. DLC is an expensive thing, perhaps SEGA were not seeing enough support for NiGHTS and therefore someone somewhere figured that should DLC not happen at least give these fans something. So, i think the cameo is a way of SUMO and/or SEGA showing us they heard us and didn’t want to disregard us entirely but DLC might not be possible.Does that mean DLC is not going to happen? No, it doesn’t mean that. Ryuko (Kori) said exactly what i was thinking when I first found out about the cameo. NiGHTS now has a character model. The way I see it, some of the work for a DLC has now been done. Should we continue to show support for DLC then NiGHTS has already some of the work made for him.
In closing, I feared fans would take this the wrong way and it seems with some of you I was right in thinking thus.
So I’m making this topic to calm you down, show you the positives of this news and how we move forward from here in regards to DLC.And once again, the fact that this campaign had some direct influence into NiGHTS being in the game is something you should appreciate because never before has this fanbase been listened to. Never.

DiGi said pretty much everything that you need to know, but I’d like to just add that NiGHTS as the flag man (or sexy flag waving babe as Kori put it lol) makes me really happy. Sure it’s not DLC, but you know what? If anything this has proven that maybe SEGA and SUMO do listen to us. This should give us the fire to make sure NiGHTS has demand for DLC even more. A lot of you guys out there have the belief that big companies don’t listen to us little guys, especialy after what happened with JoD and us the first time around… but think about this for a second.
NiGHTS was -NOT- in and then after this community shoved their support for NiGHTS he was put into the game as Flagman. Doesn’t that make you bloody proud? I know it makes me proud. Whether or not we directly caused this is only something SEGA can confirm, so I keep my faith that somehow we did. You should too.
If NiGHTS’ model has been made there’s an even bigger chance DLC for him could happen. All the guff about it ‘ruining the chances of DLC’ are utter rubbish. It doesn’t take much to do a character swap does it? Plus as a few people have stated, there ARE 2 NiGHTS in both NiD and JoD (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) So eitherway I’m sure they could fix that.
Guys this is the biggest proof that fighting for what you believe in can sometimes work.

I would prefer the Outrun Flagman as flagman and not Nights!
I kinda doubt the ASR campaign lead to NiGHTS being a flag man. Sega Uranus over at the Sega Nerds forums has been hinting at this since the campaign began. That NiGHTS was in, just not neccessarily playable.
Being a NiGHTS fan is serious business.
It is easy to tell how badly they are trying to rationalize that making him the flagman wasn’t a troll by Sumo Digital, hats off to those guys. I stand by any decision they make because they put Ryo and his forklift in the game.
I’m confused…does nobody know the actual gender of this character? I’ve never played a NiGHTS game (due to the PS2 remake of the original not being released in America and my not wanting to start with a sequel; and my never having owned a Saturn, of course), so I wouldn’t know. My experience with the character is entirely limited to SEGA Superstars Tennis. Sounded female, I thought, so I don’t get the lack of agreement on the issue.
As for the article in a more direct way: I don’t really see why it should matter what CAUSED NiGHTS to be the flag bearer, as long as that’s what is in the game. And it IS a more up-front and obvious non-playable cameo than many others are likely to be, since it’ll appear in EVERY race. Of course, I’m no core NiGHTS fan, so I wouldn’t really understand that stuff, huh?
People should be happy nights is a flagman! SEGA dont have to listen to ame fanboy requests but they do it anyway! Be happy, dont bite the hand that feeds you!

Maybe i should start my own campaign so the OutRun flagman gets his job back. Besides he has been with Sega sice the mid 80′s. Well at least he can start off a new career as a break dancer XD.

But this game unless vectormans in it isn`t a big sell to me, I`m more excited about the new Sonic 4 lol.

TRiPPY’s right. Sure NiGHTS may have a cameo appearance as a flag holder, but it doesn’t shut down the chances for her DLC. In fact, when NiGHTS’ model was made, her DLC could occur. Thank you TRiPPY for giving me a fire I need to support. I’m proud of her new duty as a flag holder.

I got both games(saturn and wii) and dont really think their special. He is really overated
Are they so bent on having some impact on this game that they’re claiming they directly influenced this? Nights was in other Allstar games, I think its possible this idea was developed independently, and probably earlier on.
