Sega Releases Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games for iPhone

New Screenshots Here First Inside

Overlooked this week–and not even hinted at by Sega–is the release of Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.  We reported on the mobile game with video back in November, with video.

Still, with about two weeks to go until the actual Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, the timing couldn’t be better.  For $4.99, you can play as Sonic and nine other characters from the universe in a battery of four real olympic events.  Players have a combination of control schemes; you can touch the screen or tilt their console, depending on the event.

In all, the roster includes Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Shadow, Vector, Metal Sonic, Blaze, and Silver.

Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games has three multiplayer modes as well.  You can play events via Wi-fi or Bluetooth, but it appears the other players have to own the game on their mobile platform for this to work.  The Pass & Play mode seems to resolve that situation.  And yes, there are unlockables via the game’s Village Store.
