Sega Declares Next Week “Hedgehog Week”

This, on Heels of Another Successful Community Challenge

Who needs Groundhog Day?  (They’re bad weather forecasters anyway.)  Everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog is getting a full week instead.

In a nod to Sonic 3′s February 2, 1994 release–then dubbed Hedgehog Day–Sega has announced the second community challenge has been met, many times over.

As of this article’s publication, Sega has received more than 350 pieces of art as part of the challenge.  They want more.

According to Sega of America’s blog, there’s incentive to do more–the more received, the more they’ll give away to fans next week:

The challenge has been bested within 48 hours, and as a result next week is going to be the Week of the Hedgehog! The celebration will begin next Tuesday on Hedgehog Day, (step aside, groundhog!) with a special massive swag giveaway and concept art reveal, and will lead into our biggest announcement going live as we approach next weekend. Trust us when we say that February is going to be a very good month. Now then – to celebrate your success, we’d like to offer you guys additional rewards for continuing to send in your concept art – and some very awesome concept art, at that! So,for every 50 pieces of Concept Art (past 100), we will give away one extra piece of Sonic Merchandise during our Hedgehog Day giveaway!

As you see in the above passage, it won’t just be a giveaway–there will be more concept art to show off, and perhaps a lead into a larger announcement at the end of the week–more so than the promise of referencing the next Sonic’s official name.  This all begins Tuesday.

Be assured, Sega isn’t putting all that fan art to waste–in fact, Sega’s showed off a few of them on their latest blog.  Enjoy that, and get excited–we sure are.  TSSZ News is here to bring you the latest developments on the next Sonic.
