Three Sonic 4 Screenshots

Tristan Oliver | February 4, 2010

From the Trailer to Your Desktop

Continuing our coverage of today’s Sonic 4 announcement, our friends at Dutch site SegaOnline have sent us some still screenshots from the game.

These are shots from what we believe to be Splash Hill Zone.  They’re available in HD resolution, ready for you to download in the gallery below.

You may guessed by now that we’re taking a bit of a different approach to today’s announcement.  We are aware of some of the leaked information, but we’ll have a story on how some of it may be a hoax of Sega’s own doing soon.  And as promised, our story checking the pulse of the community after the announcement is on its way.  So keep checking back to TSSZ News for all the hype, without all the hysterics.

Cool! I saved them to my iPod touch:)

i don’t know how I feel about this. I kinda wish they used his classic design, and that he didn’t have the homing attack. But besides that, this game looks alright so far. As long as the homing attack doesn’t take over the game, and takes a back seat (kinda like in Rush), this might be okay.

I’m glad they didn’t use the classic Sonic design, he was just two balls setting on top of each other, and I’m glad they are using the homeing attack, seems like they aren’t trying to completely recreate the older games.

Well seeing as how the homing attack was interoduced in SA1 Sonic 4 is a sequel to Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles after the events of those games which make Sonic 4 the true introduction of the homing attack as in game line up for the series so i dont have a problem with the homing attack in the mix.

this looks really good. even when we saw just 5 secs of the game:P

I personally like the fact that they didn’t use the classic designs, instead focusing on the classic theme and gameplay. Its more like modern look with classic enemies, theme, and gameplay. Cel-shaded style is awesome, too.

    I LOVE YOU SEGA :D :D :D

But I prefer having the game in CD but I dont mind I just want it :D

I’m happy that they used the Homing Attack and so on…
I’m glad that they kept Sonic’s current design and not his classic.

I Wish i had never watched this trailer. The fact that they used 2.5D and not the 2D they had promised makes me mad. The old school graphics they showed us in the concept arts are gone. The Animation of sonic is superbad. Im so sad… This feels like a joke. They release the real trailer tonight. That would be cool, but im a little bit pissed actually.

  11. Crazee on February 4th, 2010 1.59 pm

    2.5D is 2D with polygons…I don’t get the anger.

heh Mega Man fans complains about NES graphics, Sonic fans complain about getting polygons and cell shading. If it was reversed, everyone would still be mad. That’s fans for you.

No offence, I’m just confused at the reactions.

  12. Kits'Okami on February 4th, 2010 2.33 pm

    Sonic fans suck.

Sonic 4, so far, is awesome. I don’t get why people are furiously digging into the trailer to look for trivia to complain about.

We’re getting what we want. Now shut the fuck up.

If the animations were top notch, that would fix the problem by a long shot. The animations are just very sluggish and bad. That is the worst part….

What….do you say that you have a story about that SEGA dosen’t show us the real game….or what. I feel confused….XD

    @SonicLegends
Homing attack first showed up in Sonic 3D Blast, however only when you donned the gold/yellow shield.

  16. glem3 on February 4th, 2010 4.04 pm

I thought the animation was bad at first, but I think its the part AFTER the gameplay that made the animation look bad. It was because they cut after his run to him immediately stopping. Probably doesn’t happen in game.

  17. Rock on February 4th, 2010 4.13 pm

It looks like a flash game.

  18. bbop800 on February 4th, 2010 6.16 pm

By the looks of it, the game seems purely 2D. Even Sonic is 2D-ish if you look hard enough, kind of like Wario Shake It.

  19. The emerl lad on February 5th, 2010 9.05 am

I gotta say, the cell shaded/vector style to the game looks really well for a ‘classic’ feel to it. Personally, Sonic’s running animation is a little bit stiff. I really hope they can change that before its release someone should really tell them. Oh and the ’8′ motion run. That will top it all out in an awesome game to be a worthy buy.

  20. Bbop800 on February 5th, 2010 8.32 pm

Guys, I’m pretty sure the animation will be fixed, the game certainly seems at an early beta by the looks of it.
