South Island, Emeralds, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman & More
It was our intent to do a story tonight detailing fan reaction to the Sonic 4 reveal Thursday, with so many not just in the Sega and Sonic communities but all around singing the praises about Sonic’s 2D revival.
Now, we’re putting that off to the weekend. We have something better.
TSSZ News has obtained, through a tipster who wishes to remain anonymous, the storyline to Sonic the Hedgehog 4, expected to be revealed officially at 11AM ET this morning. It is the by-product of another XML leak, we are told. This could be the complete edition; the way it’s written suggests there may be more to come.
So, let’s get right to it. We’ll see if Sega has other items to reveal this Friday, aside from what we have below.
Story thus far:
It began as Sonic’s animal friends begin disappearing from South Island. Soon Sonic discovers that evil scientist Dr. Eggman has been kidnapping them and turning them into robots to collect the legendary treasure – The Chaos Emeralds. Sonic decides it’s up to him to save them and embarks on a quest to free his animal friends. Sonic battles Eggman through many different zones. Sonic eventually pursues Eggman to Final Zone where the first in many epic battles between them begins. In the end Sonic is victorious and Eggman’s Mecha fly’s away badly damaged. Sonic returns to Green Hill Zone and re-unites with his friends.
Their reunion is short lived however, as Eggman resurfaces and begins kidnapping Sonic friends again, in an effort to create more workers to finish his ultimate Weapon – The Death Egg! Teaming up with the newly met, Miles ‘Tails’ Prower, Sonic embarks on a new mission through West Side Island in an effort to free his friends and ensure Eggman does not obtain the 7 Chaos emeralds to fuel the Death Egg.
Once the West Side Island is freed, Sonic and Tails eventually board the Tornado and assault the Death Egg itself. After destroying Mecha Sonic, Eggman flees and enters his new Eggman Robot attacking Sonic! After a heated battle Sonic destroys the Eggman Robot and the Death Egg begins to explode.
Sonic and Tails fly down and come across mysterious island called Angel Island. This island is floating by the power of the precious stone called Master Emerald, but now this mysterious island are dropping down to the ocean surface because the Death Egg had been falling on this island. Sonic and Tails are attacked by a Red Echidna named Knuckles the guardian of the island.
Knuckles steals the Chaos emeralds from Sonic, being tricked by Eggman that he is an enemy come to take the Master Emerald.While Sonic and Tails are entangled by Knuckles, Eggman repairs the Death Egg and preps it for launch.
Sonic manages to jump on Death Egg just as it’s flying off. After confronting Eggman on the Death Egg, Sonic defeats Eggman once more and the Death Egg plummets back to Angel Island.
Back on the ground Dr. Eggman begins the repairing Death Egg again. Feeling Knuckles has served his purpose, he sends EggRobo to eliminate this potential threat. EggRobo finds Knuckles relaxing in Mushroom Zone and drops a bomb on him but Knuckles manages to survive. Enraged, the Wild Echidna sets off to defeat EggRobo. Meanwhile Sonic and Tails explore the island to find traces of the Death Egg and find out Eggman’s fate. After and Epic showdown between Sonic and Knuckles, Eggman uses the opportunity to finally steal the Master Emerald and re-launches the Death Egg. With the power of the emeralds, Sonic goes after Eggman, who has taken the Master Emerald into space.
Sonic and Tails secure the Master Emerald and return it to Knuckles on Angel Island. With it’s power restored, the Angel Island lifts off into the sky as Sonic and Tails fly off into the sunset.
But this humiliating defeat only serves to further Eggman’s rage, and he has determined once and for all to rid himself of Sonic. Eggman revisits – and improves – the very best of his creations to defeat our spiked hero.
And so a new Adventure begins…

This is the storyline of Sonic 1, 2, 3, and knuckles. Not of Sonic 4… only “Eggman revisits and improves the very best of his creations to defeat our spiked hero”. Is that it?
Hmmm. so it IS after Sonic and Knuckles, I just thought Tails and Sonic flew their plane to Station Square (and SA1 picks up). This game will be ceartinly continuity friendly. Though I wish there was more to the actual story then a recap of past two games.

It’s the storyline of Sonic 1, 2 and 3. It’s the pre-story line.
We STILL don’t know what happens in THIS game. Epic fail news.

I hope that by “revisiting his best creation” he referes to Metal Sonic. Does this mean we see Amy again?

This really, uh… just tells us something that we were pretty much already aware of. Quick summarization of the first games, and information we could have taken from Sonic’s bio on the English Sonic 4 website.
Not to be rude or anything, but… this really is pretty much a recap of information that was already avaliable to us without the addition of the anonymous tipster.

Actually it seems this is following on after Sonic & Knuckles but before Adventure and stuff.
The quality of the writing is terrible, and Sega really have no excuse to not have well-written work. That side of things is quite disappointing.
On the other side of this, this explains, at least, why we are getting older content:

I can also imagine an endurance round of fighting waves of Badniks making an appearance in this.

well thats “just” the prologue of the sonic 4 story, no story details or anything new.
Epic Storyline FAIL. Knuckles story happens AFTER Sonic one. That´s the reason there´s no Death Egg, no encounters with Sonic, etc. For God´s Sake, it´s impossible that Knuckles is going through all the zones, without seeing Sonic at all, but yet the Floating Island is floating just after arriving to Sky Sanctuary.
It´s a shame that Sega or Sonic Team don´t know their own mascot storyline at all. At least most of the rest is true…
Wow, I was actually excited at first when I saw the title of the article. But then as soon as I read it, I could easily tell this is just the summary of Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles. With almost nothing said about the 4th game. This makes me wonder if Tristan even read the whole thing.
I think I prefer the description under Sonic’s character data, as it is both better worded and reveals more
“Our Legendary hero returns! With the Death Egg finally destroyed, and Angel Island back in the sky, Sonic decides it’s time to take a break and heads off to explore a new territory on his own. I don’t know if it means anything but how come when Sonic jumps from the right into the ring (at the end of Sonic 4 teaser) a blur from the left jumps into the ring as well?

And the Site’s timer goes away, showing that the Intro, er… matches all of the information posted above. … -exactly- as such. I don’t know, is it just me, or is it fairly bothersome that, in light of some really, really well-written blog quotes and the like from Sega, we get this barely-proofread amount of info?
It kinda looks like they translated a portion of it by throwing the Japanese into a better-than-usual Babelfish engine or something, and tossed it onto the website in that manner.
This doesn’t really dampen what I feel about the upcoming game, but.. c’mon, Sega. You guys can write better than this. D:
Sonic and Knuckles definitely deserves a sequel such as this game. I like this story. Poor Knuckles, getting fooled by Eggman again. Sure I like Knuckles, but he need to realize that Eggman was not to be trusted due to his lies he told about Sonic and Tails.

@ John the Breeze: Yeah, I saw that too, but didn’t really think about it. I doubt it meant anything.
Though, you know what I notice? They’re using the name ‘Eggman’ instead of Robotnik. In the old games, we all know Eggman didn’t exist.
So is this picking up right after Sonic 3 or what?? Or are they just using the name ‘Eggman’ because that’s the name he’s gone by more frequently in the newer games. Lol, maybe wait for more info…
@TailstheHedgehog: Eggman was used since the first game. However it wasn’t used in America and Dr. Robotnik was used instead. Probably for the sake of marketing and localization.
