New Video: Sonic Rerun Introduced

Tristan Oliver | February 10, 2010

A Collaborative Effort, And it Looks Good

Tuesday on Sonic Fan Games HQ, a new fan project was introduced to the community, called Sonic the Hedgehog Rerun.

It is principally the work of SFGHQer Sparks, but there is some collaborative effort to show so far, including parallax scrolling by Rael Olivera, who is a Sonic Fan Games HQ administrator.  The SFG runs on the Sonic Worlds engine.

In Sparks’s words, Rerun will “replicate the classic zones, but provide plenty of characters, variety of unlockables, and plenty of replay value.”

If you look at a few screenshots from the first zone, you can head to the established SFGHQ thread for Rerun.  We have video of the game in action from YouTube, available below.  This looks to be one to watch as the product evolves.

    I think that the graphics look really good in HD.

  6. SpeedingHedgehog on February 10th, 2010 9.38 am

    That… wasn’t much. The parallax is nice, but the level design has no flow.

    Yahoo! Sonic`s running style IS gonna be the good old way!! :-P Or even classic by wheel feet! read! READ ON WIKI!!!!

    “The footage was criticized for Sonic’s seemingly slow running animation, but it has since been clarified that there will be faster animation similar to that in Sonic 3 and Sonic CD.”

    :mrgreen: well now, I needn`t worry ey? I`m glad Sega`s going to fix his running animation to the proper fast movements again ^_^ SEGA!

    @blueblur
    How about we talk about this fangame instead of whatever it is you are, huh?

    I love that scrolling method. It makes Sonic look all the more connected to the world and is also more immersive than the traditional scrolling found in most other fan games. If the levels are more faithful to their originals with more shortcuts and what-not, that’ll make for a really neat throwback, but if the levels are completely original with templates we’ve seen before, that’s fine too.

    @blueblur You waited a whopping two hours to inadvertently scowl readers about not posting their favorites. Come on man. This article isn’t even about your favorite stuff, it’s about the fan game. No harm done though.
