But Mario Kart Comparisons Persist
We have word in that one of Germany’s top gaming magazines, Computer Bild Spiele, has reviewed both the HD and Wii editions of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.
As with Games Master, different scores were given for different versions. The magazine gave their thumbs up to track and character selection, but from what we know, there are two items of note. First, as so many others have cited just from playing the demo build of ASR released this week, there are frame rate issues. Also, the Mario Kart comparisons once again came into play, and once again, Computer Bild Spiele believes ASR falls short of Nintendo’s long running franchise.
To go by the numbers, you need to go by Germany’s grading system, which may be a bit different from what you’re used to–where lower numbers are better. The XBOX360 and PS3 editions were given a score of 2.32. That’s about a B+ grade, if not close to the 90 percentile. The Wii version was given a 2.46 score. Both were given the “good” designation–so in all, if you care the most about scores, you can chalk both these up in the 80s range, if not high 80s.
With launch day for ASR now about a week and a half way, you can expect more review scores to come in–and we’ll be here to relay the professional opinions of ASR.

CAN EVERYONE STOP COMPARING IT TO MARIO KART!!!!!
IF YOU DONT ITS ACTUALLY REALLY FUN!!!!
The fact is Mario Kart Franchise is considered to be the best one out there and the Wii entry was no different. No one can deny the appeal of the game. So either, like it or not, a kart racing game has to be compared to Mario Kart. Does it surpass it? Does it come close? Does it provide equal levels of enjoyment? These are all questions for the reviewers and users alike to answer. One can only wish the answer will be “yes, its as good or better” since Mario Kart is a nintendo exclusive and Sega Racing is a multiplatformer offering.
If I’m not wrong the PS3/360 version is about: 7.68/10.
10 minus 2.32 = 7.68
Or…how do they count? XD
2.46 out of what? Cuz I don’t get how that’s good.
@Osnic: Lol, yeah – strange system. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
Pre-ordered mine yesterday, so I’ll be hooning down to EB Games on the fourth ^.^
@Sonicfan167 I totally agree with you! ASR is nothing like Mario Kart! I AM SICK OF SONIC VS MARIO!!!!!
Jesus… calm down guys, Sonic and Mario are iconic game characters who were originally seen as rivals. Sonic was created to take down Mario, financially. They are both very popular and cartoony. They will be seen as rivals for a long time, expect similarities in the series to be compared. When it comes to spin-offs, Mario has “slept” with more genres than any other franchise I can recall while still mantaining high popularity, so comparing to Mario is to be expected when Sonic tries his hand at something Mario has already done.
When you make a game in a specific genre, it is going to be compared to the best in that genre. Examples being, all multiplayer shooters nowadays are compared to Call of Duty, all 2D fighters nowadays are compared to Street Fighter 4 or Tekken 6, all MMORPG’s nowadays are compared to World of Warcraft and all cartoon racing games (and some hyper realistic racing games) are compared to Mario Kart. It’s a fact that we’re not going to get away from until somthing comes along and topples Mario Kart. Moaning about isn’t going to change anything. Having had a chance to play the demo for ASR i can say that it does in fact play like Mario Kart. That’s not me trying to say “just accept what they tell you”, no that is my opinion and by no means will it stop me from buying this game because it is enjoyable and fun to play, just like Mario Kart. Surely at the end of the day that’s why we play games isn’t it?
They use German academic grading, guys. Approximately 1=A, 2=B, …6=F.

Anyway, I don’t think that this magazine is one of Germany’s “top gaming magazines”, at least not when “top” is meant as a statement about quality rather than quantity (sales). Given their name “Computer Bild Spiele”, they seem to be related to this bad tabloid:

Mario kart is awesome but i have to say that THE Wii version is à bit dissapointing…
Mario Kart Wii is terrible, fair enouh the DS version and 64, but teh GC and Wii versions were complete so awful especially Wii. Mario Kart gets alot more credit then it deserves and would probably lose it if Mario were not present.
after Mario Kart for N64 the franchise wen’t downhill. This game has given me what i’ve been seeking for so long. Doesn’t really matter what those magazines say because from now on Sega all-stars racing will be #1 in my heart.
