Are Sonic Advance, Sonic Unleashed Wii Devs Back for Another Round?
This isn’t listed on Sega’s page proper, but thanks to TSSZ News reader Mykonos, we can tell you of another source that is listing Dimps as the primary developer for the upcoming episodic Sonic 4.
This is according to Microsoft’s listing of Episode I, and had largely remained unnoticed until now. Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean Sonic Team is being cut out of the equation completely, but it more than likely means the development team behind the Sonic Advance franchise and Sonic Unleashed on the Wii will handle primary responsibilities in this series.
Also noteworthy from Microsoft’s description is the game synopsis, which may not have been previously disseminated:
With Eggman finally defeated, Sonic runs off to explore new zones and uncharted lands. Dr. Eggman, furious at the destruction of the Death Egg and the failure of his plans, puts all of his most devious schemes into action. In an effort to finally rid himself of Sonic, he revisits – and improves – the very best of his creations. Get ready for the next chapter in an all new epic 2D saga built for old and new fans alike.
It may not seem important, but the news may cause a serious split of opinion. On the one hand, Sonic Advance was well received by fans and media alike, and the Wii edition of Sonic Unleashed generally fared better among the gaming press than the XBOX360/PS3 edition. On the other hand, it may give veteran fans who want Sonic Team–and perhaps only Sonic Team–to bring the franchise back to its roots more reason to doubt.
So, do you think having Dimps on board is a good or bad thing? Sound off in the comments section. Thanks again to Mykonos for tipping us off. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.
