M&S Winter Olympics Hits 6 Million Sales Mark

Game Takes Home Gold…Your Gold

One of the big reasons Sega Sammy Holdings was recently able to post profits on the whole and in its consumer division for the first time in a long time was due to the strong success of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

On Thursday, Sega announced the combined sales of the Nintendo Wii and DS versions topped 6 million units worldwide.  That’s not bad for a game that’s only been out for a little over four months.

Further, as the actual Winter Olympic Games are going on right now in Vancouver, British Columbia, Sega wants more sales, and announced an ongoing television campaign to run along the games in North America and northern European countries.

Of note is how Sega’s presser did not release the short lived Sonic at the Olympic Games, which appears to be in limbo right now.
