Reports of Glitchy ASR Achievements

Lycett: “We’re looking into all the comments”

Increasingly, players of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing are reporting discrepancies as to noted achievements in the game versus what has actually been achieved on scout’s honor.

The problems manifest themselves in various forms.  Some players have reported more or less achievements reflected in XBOX360 dashboards proper versus what’s in-game.  Others are reporting trouble formally unlocking achievements–even as what’s necessary to earn them has been completed.

Sumo Digital reps are taking all the comments seriously.  Steve Lycett says on the Sega forums that ASR was thoroughly tested for such bugs before the game went gold:

We’re looking into all the comments related to Acheivements, bear in mind that the game was extensively tested by SEGA before release, and they tell me they did a full acheivement run on every version. It wouldn’t have made it to the pressing plant if they couldn’t 1000/1000 it.

Of course, there are always some fringe cases that can cause problems.

First thing you should do is make sure you’ve installed the Title Update on 360. If you play the game and you’re connected to Xbox Live, this will automatically install. You should get it for the frame-rate improvements if nothing else!

Next, always make sure you’ve saved and exited back to the Front End. Sometimes the internal tracker will update, but if you’ve not saved, it may not trigger the actual achievement. This is likely the case with the Ghost ones, we actually check when you get back to the front end if you’ve done all 24, say you quit the game or choose to accept a friend request, if you’ve not saved the Ghost Data, the game won’t know you’ve beaten all 24 default Ghosts…

I’ve had a few reports that people aren’t getting the All-Star move one, where you’ve used all the characters All-Stars to hit an opponent. The key here is ‘hit’ Sometimes you may barge them, sometimes they’re already leaving the track. If you don’t see a character spin or flip out, then it won’t count towards this Acheivement.

We will of course look to fix any that are broken, but our initial tests here show they all do work as expected. I’ll keep an eye on feedback and we’re also getting SEGA QA to recheck them all, and if we find any that don’t work right, we’ll roll it into the TU we’ll be doing for the DLC.

That’s the stance right now regarding achievement unlocks.  If you’re having issues, you’re advised to sit tight, as any DLC releases will hopefully rectify the situation–then again, that poses another problem in potentially having to pay for the fixes moreso than the DLC.  We’ll keep tabs.
