ASR Sales Down Across the Board in UK

Fall not so Serious for Wii, DS Editions

All UK sales Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing did drop in the official individual multiformat charts released by Chart Track this morning, and while the drop wasn’t as precipitous on some console editions, there is reason to worry about others.

First, the good news: the Nintendo Wii and DS editions did hold their own against another strong March release–this time Final Fantasy XIII.  The Wii edition dropped 3 places to #15, beating Mario Kart Wii again for the week, which placed 19th.  The DS edition also fared well, dropping only four places to #21.  That edition also beat its direct counterpart for the week, Mario Kart DS, which placed 35th.

But it’s the HD editions–the ones on which DLC are planned–that are of most concern.  The XBOX360 edition of ASR tanked in a big way, dropping seventeen places to #36.  The PS3 edition dropped thirteen places to the bottom of the charts, at #40.  Both versions appear in danger of dropping out of the top 40 next week.

It appears Nintendo console owners are keeping the game relevant in Europe.  But for those hoping for DLC, the sudden decline of the HD editions may force Sega and/or Sumo to wonder how cost-effective development time will be.  We may also have a Sonic Unleashed type situation on our hands, with profits from the Wii/DS editions in effect justifying goodies elsewhere.  We’ll see how the estimates pan out later in the week, and where the Chart Track ranks fall next Monday.
