Video: Unity Based 2.5D SFG Revealed, Praised

Why So Little is Getting So Much Attention

Over the weekend, forumers of Sonic Retro were wowed at first sight of a two and a half dimensional Sonic fan game in development now by newcomer Pelikan13.

We have 720p HD screenshots and a video of the game in action below.  It’s said to run off the Unity 3D engine, and it’s meant to be a fusion of both original and classic Sonic levels.  What you see in the imagery, for example, is a reimagination of Sonic 2′s Emerald Hill Zone.

Pelikan13 says he plans to release a one level demo of the game soon, with prospects of any continuation into a full product dependent on community support.  But already, the winds of support have turned heavily in his favor, with comparisons to Sega’s upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4–and a few proclaiming this SFG could be what the next proper Sonic is not.

It may be a bit early for that, since a demo hasn’t been released yet.  But if the SFG can live up to the hype, we may have a new standard on which others will be judged in short order.  You can judge for yourself–have a look at the quick proof of concept video and development screenshots, and give us your preliminary evaluation in our comments area.  Thanks to SonikkuForever and Alios for sending this information in.  If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.
