A Report on Sonic/Sega Sights and Sounds from MegaCon

Bayonetta a Big Draw, But Sonic Fans Wanted More

Over the weekend, pop culture enthusiasts flocked to Orlando, Florida to take part in MegaCon, the largest convention of its kind in the southeastern United States.

It looks like Sega has a presence at the expo, but it was very limited, according to Mathias Silvers, who wrote into TSSZ News to share the experience.

According to our tipster, Bayonetta and DS Sega titles had a presence, but there was no official sight of Sonic or the next Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog 4.  Most of the Sonic scene at MegaCon was established by sceners themselves, through fan booths and other outreach.  But if nothing else, it shows Sega is continuing to push for a broader community outreach, and tighter ties with its fans of all kinds.

We don’t have pictures, but we have the account of what was there, and if that’s of interest to you, that’s quoted in full below.  We thank Mathias Silvers for sharing this news with us.  If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking News Tips at the top of every page.

At MegaCon of 2010, not a single word was said about StH4 from the Sega booth. In fact there wasn’t even a hint of Sonic at the booth. It mainly consisted (In the small space they had) of four main consoles, all playing Bayonetta, and a couple of DS handhelds.

The slightest signs of Sonic anywhere in the entire Con itself were the paraphanelia sold by the vendors, a booth from Sonic Remix Studios (Fan based artwork), a decent amount of fans, and a few walk in panels.

The panels themselves weren’t even by Sega, they were run by the fans. (Atleast the panels I were able to make. I do not know if Sega had run the other one I missed.)

Other than that… nothing what so ever (From what I saw and what I was able to attend to) came from Sega’s end.
