As Expected, Egg-O-Matic and All
As part of today’s major reveal for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Sega has affirmed something most everyone knew from the get-go: Dr. Eggman will be the second character featured in Episode I.
But here’s something noteworthy: Sega’s description of Eggman does make some continuity references. Specifically, he will be looking for revenge after losing the Master Emerald to Sonic; the Master Emerald reference affirms this will occur directly after the Sonic 3 & Knuckles events, and essentially ignore most story matters from 1995 on except, ironically, the use of the word Eggman:
After losing the Master Emerald during his last encounter with Sonic, Eggman regroups with a new objective; to revisit and refine some of his best creations in an effort to finally rid himself of Sonic!
As is now par for the course, we did get a 3D model of Eggman, and you can see a still photo of that below.

…it looks like his model from the Adventure games.
They should just drop the pretense that this has a story, the “story” is a an excuse to bring back old badniks that’s it.. All the genesis games had more of a story than this hell even the game gear games, this is nothing more than a window dressing to a retro throwback.
It looks even worse than the 10 year old Adventure model. If this game is using pre-rendered models why don’t they have the quality of the fantastic CG seen in recent Sonic titles? I’d really love the hear the reasoning behind this, the more I learn and see of the game makes it look like they are being really really lazy, it reeks of the shoddy thrown together quality of Dimp’s previous titles.
@ Dr.Eggfang
I have no words…
Any specific reason a hover mobile needs wings?
@Epicenter:
He’s a licenced airplane pilot, and earned his wings?
I mean, it doesn’t have to be a badge, right?
@Eggfang
Please..leave the Sonic series…now. Its obvious nthing will please you, so please just leave. You nothing but a small raincloud on a otherwise bright day for Sonic 4
Heh! I love how Eggman looks! I do say those wings on his Egg mobile were unnecessary, but still cool, nonetheless.
Eggfang: While I do believe what Crysore just told you was a bit harsh, I do have to agree with him, nonetheless. Seriously, considering your pasts comments on tssz and your overload of negativity, it is clear that nothing Sega does will please you. And yet you keep coming back for Sonic related news like you don’t care if you don’t get pleased, or are not even aware that you cannot be pleased.
Please, this franchise does NOT revolve about you small minded wants and desires as well as yourself. There are better things to whine about in the real world than Sonic games, or games in general, and Sega, while I admit they could have done better with some past and recent Sonic games, some I still like, they do not have to make it all in the way you want it, like it or not.
So why waste your time trying to whine and be overnegative about this when we don’t even have to put up with it? Or else, why should we care what you think? It is not like you have the “supreme opinion” on Sonic games, for no one has that! Eggfang, whatever you are trying to do, or prove by being so negative, pessimistic and hateful about every little thing about Sonic 4, it’s just a waste of your time, and not to mention that we don’t even care, especially when we are entitled to think of the game differently from you.
Plus, how you may have precieved and hated past games, even if there are others who share the same thoughts, that is no reason to hate and bash this game just because it is a Sonic game, or not even being made your way. There are plenty of people on this planet, who, if they cam across the game, would be happier than you’d even ever be, and guess what? If if you don’t like it, and they do, and the game makes lots of money despite your hatred, tough!
So please consider ceasing participation in the franchise. I know it is ultimately your call to do so, but if you remain negative about Sonic games and will never be happy no matter what is done, there is no point in trying to even be happy one bit. Seriously, why waste such time when you shouldn’t even find reasons to add to your negativity over a simple video game franchise?
Like I said, it IS your call, but for many a reason, I’d “retire” from this fanbase and find other things to make myself happier and be more productive in life, if I were you.
@Crysore: agreed, leave dr.eggfang. no one wants your complaining ass here.
What i don’t get is people wan’t a Sonic game like the old ones, you get one and still complain. And before people start moaning about this not being a real retro-esque sonic game i have a quote from another website i visit. “Video games evolve over time, deal with it or stop playing them” We can’t be stuck in 16bit land forever, that would just be boring and then you’d only complain that Sega aren’t innovating enough.
@save_us
… so you wan’t more games like sonic06?
a game can still be oldschool and still evolve. a perfect example is that new super mario game.
@daniel13789:
ERRRRM No, where the hell did i even imply that? I was refering to the art style of the game. Nowhere in my post did i say anything along the lines of “i want Sonic 06 2″ Had you bothered to read it properly you might have noticed.
Geez, some people.
Oh man, Crysore you are completely right about Eggfan, too bad his type represents about 60% of the fanbase now. It’s sad that people like him call themselves fans.
I am very excited about this game. To be honest, I like both Eggman’s new model and his old model. But there is one thing that puzzles me about Eggman’s new outfit and the setting of Sonic 4,when looking back at the plot of previous Sonic titles I remembered that Sega changed Eggman’s model in Sonic Pocket Adventures. At the beginning of the game Eggman wore his old outfit which we saw in Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles, etc. However, by the end of that game, we see Eggman in his new form, which we first saw him in Sonic Adventure, so technically Sonic 4 must have taken place after Sonic Pocket Adventure.Anyways, I know that I probably over analyzed this, I guess all the hype about Sonic 4 is really getting me excited.
As I stated before. The title of this game should be Sonic 4: Now Shut The Fuck Up Already.
Thrown together, downloadable, “slop” to satiate the hungry masses threatening to throw bricks through their windows if they don’t get a good Sonic game.
Yet another disappointment added to the list. Sonic’s drowning music should be kicking in any time.
How is it that Mario can go retro and looks great, but Sonic goes retro and it lacks the love that was put into the previous titles?
No love…no quality product. Some fans are bitter about this because of the slew of past disappointments. I try to remain optimistic, but I’m not guaranteeing anything.
If you want to please the fans, at least look like you put effort into it. Tossing together random polygons and labeling it as a long awaited sequel is false advertising.
This is the equivalent of labeling Twilight as a vampire novel.
