Sega Studios in San Francisco Closes

Formerly Secret Level, An Acquisition Pushed by Former SOA Head

Today was not a Good Friday for the now former employees of Sega Studios in San Francisco.

The developer once known as Secret Level officially shut down today after a day or two of rumors professing the closure was imminent, according to an IGN report.  Unclear at the moment is how many jobs were lost, but the number may be over 100.

The studio was acquired in 2006 once they started development on Golden Axe: Beast Rider.  It was former Sega of America head Simon Jeffery’s idea to acquire them, and from there, the studio enjoyed a large expansion.  But in recent months, reports surfaced that told of appreciable turnover at the development house.

Sega Studios’s last work, the video game adaptation of Iron Man 2, will still be released in May.
