Report: Sega Trademarks “Let’s Go Golf”

Will Prope, Naka Continue the Franchise?

A Siliconera report says Sega’s Japanese division has trademarked another in a series of possible successors to the Let’s franchise.

You may recall the series is the brainchild of Yuji Naka and his recently formed development studio Prope.  Naka left Sonic Team in 2006 to create the studio, which is in part funded by Sega.  Let’s Tap for Wii and to an extent the iPhone, along with WiiWare-only successor Let’s Catch, were released to lukewarm sales in Japan December 2008, and early in 2009 domestically.  Presently, Prope’s most prominent project is Ivy the Kiwi?, due for Japanese release later this month on Wii and DS, and published by Bandai Namco Games.

In this particular case, Prope may be gearing up for a return to roots.  The report states Let’s Go Golf has been trademarked, with the intent to use the name as part of a video game.   Other than the filing, there’s no other indication such a game exists, or if it will even be developed by Prope.  Keep in mind, too, that similar trademarks were filed long ago for Let’s Party–under the same premise–and nothing related has since materialized.

It bears watching, so we’ll keep tabs.
