Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Likely to See Console Release

XBOX360, PS3 Edition Could Soon be Announced

The recently announced revision to Virtua Fighter 5, known as Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, has only recently trickled out of the 2010 AOU show in Japan, and already there is reason to believe the arcade game could hit consoles, possibly as soon as before the year is over.

The news originated over the weekend by a longtime, respected member of the Virtua Fighter.com forums known as L_A.  The forumer boasted with much certainty that the Final Showdown build will hit a console either by Christmas or next March.

“There are many games that only get to the drawing board,” L_A said, “But I assure you FS is past that for the console side of things.”

Since then, an independent source has corroborated that information with TSSZ News and went a little further.  Our source says VF5 Final Showdown should see release both on XBOX360 and the Playstation 3.  The latter, if true, is especially important since the original VF5 release for the console lacked online play–something that can be rectified with the new release.

Our source affirmed the release timetable cited, and clarified a Holiday release may be better suited to Japan, while a release next March is more probable domestically.  We were also tipped a formal announcement may be soon to come–perhaps as early as E3, which occurs in June.

So, if nothing else, we have some E3 hype to look forward to.  We’ll continue to let you know how this story evolves.  As no clear evidence has surfaced, we have filed the story under our Rumor Alert section.
