A:DR Dev Still Needs Your Help for Engine
Late yesterday, a video was released detailing the tweaks and twists in the 2nd public release of SonicGDK, the 3D Sonic fan game engine intended to be openly released upon completion.
We reported on the actual release of SonicGDK Preview Release 2 last month. It’s the product of Xaklse, one of the brains behind the highly anticipated Ashura: Dark Reign 3D SFG.
Improvements in the build include physics and momentum changes, as well as Spindash support–most of which is reflected in the more than two minute rundown. You’ll also be able to see how those elements play out underwater.
Help is still wanted for SonicGDK. Xaklse is still looking for those who can rig or animate a 3D Sonic model, as well as mesh modelers. Feedback remains welcome at Sonic Fan Games HQ and Sonic Retro. You can also download the build and tinker for yourself. But first, check out the new video below.

Now this is what you call a great transition of momentum gameplay into 3d
Wow. This game has a loooooong way to go. It doesn’t even have Sonic in it yet. Looks good so far though.
Looks pretty great… I bet as soon as the author fits it with a test Sonic model.
Everyone will jump it!
0:22-0:39 : DO A BARREL ROLL !!!
Looking good so far, but needs hedgehog.
SpeedingHedgehog and James, I think that maybe you have both missed the point of this video. It’s about gameplay and physics, which is what 3D Sonic is notorious for doing badly. Already it plays better than most 3D Sonics, regardless of whether the character is a robot, Sonic or even a cube with no animations.
This engine seems to be awesome… I just hope they keep on the project long enough to feature some interesting levels. So far, there has been many Sonic fan engines in 3D, but most of them end up in the dust. Let´s hope this changes that fact.
Actually having “Sonic” in it is only a superficial deal. The character is playing almost like Sonic, so he’s mostly there.
My word. This is it. Sega hire these people now.
