SOA Public FTP Shuts Down

Now Where Will We Get Our Leaks?

Sega has tightened up access and control of materials it releases to the press and public by shutting down its domestic media FTP portal.

Previously open for anyone to view, a succinct message on the page now asks users to register for Sega Press, a password protected resource for journalists that has recently been phased in.

For Sega, the transition to more secure practices closes the door on what was occasionally an embarrassing security gap.  In 2008, the portal was the source of documents that led to the first unexpected releases concerning Sonic Unleashed.  In 2009, another sensitive document surfaced on the public FTP detailing a meeting Sega had with Sony.  That meeting included discussion about a Playstation 3 exclusive Sonic compilation with improvements to classic games.  A $99 price point was considered for it, according to that document.
