Virtual-On Force for XBOX360 Revealed in Famitsu

Arcade Conversion to Include Multiplayer, Online Capability

After a successful release of Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram to XBOX Live, and nine years after it appeared in Japanese arcades, Sega has decided to port the third Virtual -On title, Force, to XBOX 360.

The news was broken late Tuesday by the latest issue of Famitsu magazine.  We first told you about the confirmation via a bulletin late last night and this morning.

The home port will retain its multiplayer capability (including 2 on 2 team battles) and add an visual conversion to HD and XBOX Live support, according to AndriaSang’s translation of the Famitsu article.

A mission mode will be added for the retail version, which allows players to unlock new mechs.  More than a dozen will be included in the game.  Co-op capability will be included for this mode, as will be the case for a new boss fight mode.  Force will be compatible with the Twin Sticks EX peripheral from Hori, originally released for VO:OT.

For those unaware, the Virtual On series is a long standing mech fighter franchise from Sega’s Hitmaker division.  The series started with an arcade release in 1995, which also made it to Sega Saturn and PC.  The game’s hook is in its use of twin joysticks to control fighters.  The series is well known and well celebrated in Japan, but hasn’t gained quite the same following domestically.  That in mind, while Force will see release this Winter in Japan, it is unclear whether Sega has plans to bring it across the Pacific for a localized release.
