GameSpot May be in on “Exclusive,” Plus More Details
If one line found on the Sega forums is to be believed, whatever joint exclusive Sonic Stadium and Sonic Retro has may only be for a very finite period.
Late yesterday Sega community manager RubyEclipse made a comment that suggests his appearance on Today On the Spot, the regular video program produced by GameSpot–who, interestingly enough, had the first exclusive on the game’s official reveal as Sonic 4 on February 4th. The comment, below, infers that he will make a Sonic 4 related announcement on the program, which airs at 7PM ET tonight:
See you all (on the spot) tomorrow!
It’s been stated already, but to help get people ready – the news will go out in the evening UK time, and the afternoon US time.
That second sentence is a last minute change from those expected to have heard something by now. What’s more, no Sonic 4 announcement is actually being promoted by GameSpot–only Ivy the Kiwi? is prominently teased right now.
Still, TSSZ News has learned to potentially expect a reveal at around 3PM ET today–that’s noontime in the Western US time zone, and 8PM in Britain. That hasn’t been confirmed, and a possible release any minute in the 2PM hour–par for the course during the pre-leak schedule of Sonic 4 updates–could still occur.
Depending on the validity of RubyEclipse’s remarks, whatever may be On the Spot this evening could undercut both Sonic Retro and Sonic Stadium’s touted “joint-exclusive” on the matter, allowing only a few hours of true first dibs. The other possibility, especially if this announcement is more community related and less to do with the actual Sonic 4 product, may be that one announcement will clarify the other. The notion that it was just a figure of speech is also proposed, and that could very well be the case. All of this is to be seen, and we are here to cover it all this afternoon–including the On the Spot appearance, should it occur.

Why can’t they just come out with the info like a normal game publisher, instead of going round in circles with all this stuff.

This had me in stitches from the first paragraph.

Even more contempt than the last article. You could compare this to the theoretical situation of Fox News throwing a shit fit that they didn’t get the same interview that MSNBC got. News is a competitive business, you win some and you lose some, and when you lose some you don’t make reports or articles about how that OTHER channel or website got the exclusive, passively insinuating that YOU didn’t.
Also, you’re wrong. We’re not announcing anything regarding the ACTUAL REVEAL. Our exclusive was to announce that there WOULD BE a reveal, which we could really care less about. So really– oop, wait a sec, you have some egg on your face, there.

Stop throwing a tantrum because you didn’t get to announce the announcement of an annoucement, and grow up already. You’re an adult now. No need to throw your toys across the playpen because you didn’t get the babysitter’s attention.
If anyone should be upset, it’s the readers of Retro and Sonic Stadium who were deliberately misled into thinking something that I’m still not totally convinced will no longer happen on their sites.
As I’ve said before, I’ve broken enough stories on here using traditional research where I’m not particularly bothered, especially if that’s it. And if this is the best shot Kevin can take at me, that’s pretty sad.

You know, when I realized how paranoid you were, I thought maybe you’d eventually get over it or something, but you really truly think people are out to get you, don’t you?
You think Ruby is trying to mess with you by making you think we’re getting an exclusive and then take it even further by trying to make you believe that we’re not when we really are?
