Sonic Retro, Sonic Stadium Not Getting Sonic 4 Exclusive

Confirmed by Retro Staffer Khaled, and Sega Rep

The “Joint Exclusive” touted by Sonic Retro and Sonic Stadium regarding today’s pending Sonic 4 reveal was nothing more than an announcement of an announcement, it was confirmed today by both a Sonic Retro staffer and a Sega community manager.

“We’re not announcing anything regarding the ACTUAL REVEAL. Our exclusive was to announce that there WOULD BE a reveal, which we could really care less about,” said Katherine Khaled, a part of the Sonic Retro team.  She made the remark on one of our earlier stories as part of a broad insinuation of jealousy and paranoia on account of TSSZ News and this reporter regarding Monday’s news.

Sega of America community manager Kellie Parker affirmed their roles in a follow-up comment to another TSSZ News story regarding what we felt was a switch published this afternoon.

“The exclusive that Sonic Retro and Sonic Stadium had was to announce that there would be an update today,” Parker said.  “They were not scheduled to carry today’s announcement exclusively. There has been no devaluing of their participation in today’s announcement.”

So, both sites’ roles have been fulfilled in Sega’s eyes, albeit at the cost of tremendous confusion for visitors of both sites, and perhaps misleading rhetoric in their respective releases.  A lot of fans were under the impression both sites would be releasing something more substantive today.

For their part, Sonic Stadium webmaster Svend Joscelyne will still try to.  He clarified in a comment on his original Monday story, “Gamespot will have a feature, but we will try to get the news first.”

So will we.  Stay with TSSZ News as bring you team coverage of tonight’s developments.  I’ll be covering the initial release at 6PM eastern time, Ryan Bloom will bring you details on the 7PM GameSpot appearance, and I’ll be back later tonight to wrap it all up with community reaction–which, so far, in part due to the quick turnaround of events today, has not been great.
