“Will increase the chances of this game becoming successful,” It Says
If Sega truly is listening to Sonic fans as it refines Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I for a Fall release, it has one more crowd to listen to–the PC player caucus.
Into us via a news tip from Spanner is word of a petition underway to convince Sega to port the next Sonic to personal computers. The game is already confirmed for all three major home consoles, as well as Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.
“The PC platform has been ignored and we are unhappy that you have chosen to ignore this section, especially the fact that you could’ve used a service such as Steam to deliver this content,” the petition reads in part.
For reference, the latest Sonic branded title, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, was released to PC, both in disc form and via Steam, and on Friday, Sega announced the re-release of several classic Sega games, including Sonic 3D Blast, to Steam on June 1st.
As of the time of this article’s publication, the petition was approaching 200 hundred signatures.

They should release Sonic 4 via CD format
Ahhhh yes, this “pc fan” use pirate and no want buy sonic 4
No sonic 4 for PC
Lucas Hinz: It’s possible to get Wiiware, Xbox Live games and stuff like that the “pirateway” too. There is people who don’t have any console, just a PC. So I think it’s a good idea.
@Osnic
Yes, but pirating games for PC is much easier than pirating games for Xbox 360 or Wii. It’s not even possible to pirate games for PS3. (at least, not now)
A Steam version of Sonic 4 would be nice, but a lot more people would pirate it.
I’m going to make a petition to get this on my Genesis. If SEGA wants this … to be TRULY successful.
@serpx
There is a fan port being made for the Mega Drive. It will most likely address some issues that the original game has.
Whats with these sonic fanboys always starting useless petitions.
People only want it for PC to pirate. Considering most people that have the slight interest in gaming have a Wii/PS3 or 360.
Hmmm, ya know that’s actually not a bad idea. Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is available on the PC, and so is Rocket Knight, so why not have it available on Steam?
@ serpx
Lmao
I’ll be voting, for sure – thing that craps me about consoles is, generations move by, and the games go with it, so I half feel like I am wasting my money.
But PC always has the same media and format to play, and your games are staying.
..Plus I like PC maor.
I have the consoles for all the great exclusives though, Mario, LBP.
NO SIGN…
there is such thing as torrents and Sonic 4 is bound to be in it. That will not support the game. In fact, it will cost Sega a lot of money.
steam is a good option
Torrents… With thay way of thinking, neither a Wii version should came out…..
Those bastards that put things on torrents should be in jale a couple of weeks so they can learn a lesson.
To you all saying PC gamers are 90% pirates.
Why did Sega release Sonic Rush (Adventure) on DS, when 90% of DS users (all around the world) use R4 for piracy?
Why did Sega release ASR on PC, if there are so high losses?
Why is Sega going to release a Wii edition of S4, while PC pirates can use DOLPHIN (no Dolphin devs offense)?!
Huh?
We now have over 300 signatures.

Dude seriously? Not everyone is a warez monkey.. I’d HAPPILY buy this via Steam – it’d be my no.1 preference. And not everyone is a console junkie; there are PC gamers you know? SEGA have even announced their releasing older games via STEAM, so there’s no reason they can’t port Sonic 4.. other than sheer laziness..
and to add to that; as everyone else has said; piracy is more prominent on the Wii (as it’s piss easy to accomplish these days), WiiWare games are easier to crack/install than the majority of PC games these days.
People will pirate shit no matter how you look at it, providing the price is right and the game is of a high quality – more people will buy it. A demo is the decider for most people; so a Sonic 4 demo would really make it or break it for the majority (hint hint Sega)
90% of pc gamer I know ignore metal gear saga, ignore mario saga, ignore gears of saga, problaby ignore sonic.
If sonic go to pc,they pirate the game.
The 90% i know pc gamer only fix
“Wooww grafix !!!!!1111one,look the bioshock, look the crysis, look the modern warface2″
And not born with EPIC games in yout hearth =/
aka,ninja gaiden nes series,sonic classic series,mario classic series,castlevania etc.
I don’t think this is a good ideia, if this game come to PC plataform it will only bring damages to Sega because of the piracy problem.
Of Course I want o see this game on PC but again it’s a waste of time(and money) trying to bring it, everyone knows what happens when a game comes to PCs, I’m not saying that is impossible for the game make money on PC, but it’s hard and Sega will probably waste too much on this and in the end will not receive what was expecting.
I really think that all people who want this on a disc are just plain ignorant. They do not realize that when the game becomes a downloadable title, that means that they don’t have to pay to make a disc copy, so because they new people would get upset over it being download only, and some people not having broadband internet, they released it on the App store, because they know that iPhones and iPod touch’s are popular, so Sonic fans who don’t have wifi or broadband could get it from their 3G network, or iTunes store on the computer…
@ stan43321
Don’t forget about the homebrew channel! I use that when buying games that I respect from companies that I don’t respect!
it doesn’t matter if it comes or not, we still have more experience fan made games than sega team now. SONIC game on Unreal Engine 3 and Sonic 4 fan Game on Unity it show this project dev are better than any sega employee who create shitty games anyway. Sonic 4 looks like a remake of sonic 1 and 2 in HD, who the hell want to play the game again with the same bosses stages oh my, this is old already. Sega is not going be successful with this plan like sonic 06 and Unleashed even though Sonic Unleashed was better than this but not good enough as Rocket Knight HD or Mario Galaxy 2.
My,my, sega! I can’t believe you of all people would say such a bad thing about you’re own company!
Anyway, @sega
Please do not post anything until you have *seen* the new game… or have read the actual article and the reasoning for it’s delay
Putting it on the iPhone is a waste of time. Why make stuff for Steve Jobs’ elitist devices?
Now I really must say something…
First, I REALLY think that it would be a GREAT idea to release Sonic 4 for PC, exspecially when you’re thinking about people who don’t have console. I don’t have console, and I’m a big Sonic fan. The PC discrimination has been a real dissapoinment to me, since I haven’t got ANY chance to play these newest games! (The latest game I’ve bough is Sonic Riders. After Sonic 2006 got released I haven’t bought any games, because they haven’t been released on PC) I DON’T do piratism, so just shut up about piracy problems! There ARE people who DON’T DO such things!
I am so going to sign this petiotion, since I really, REALLY DO think that it REALLY WOULD help the game get even more popular!
Now I’ve said my opinion, and I will leave you here to think about this PC release thing…
@ Chao93
You really think the game won’t be pirated on the PC? This is the Sonic community, what in your right mind would make you think that it won’t be pirated. Sonic games do not fare very well on the PC, the PC releases of Heroes and Riders are seen as terrible games. So naturally because of the bad reviews, SEGA won’t release games on the PC because bad reviews = poor sales for them, and the PC is a market that SEGA shouldn’t support in the first place because SEGA knows that people won’t buy their games on the PC as much as they are sold for the consoles. Supporting a steam release would make SEGA loose money as well because then the game would be pirated, We’re lucky that SEGA would support the Wii as it has a high pirate rate as well.
I suggest you save up your money and get a PlayStation 3, it’s reliable and doesn’t break as much as a 360, and it doesn’t have a severe lack of anything fun like a Wii, because SEGA will likely not do this. I would be very surprised if they would. If SEGA does go through with it, which will cause a bigger delay, then I would be highly surprised.

I never said it won’t be pirated, I only said that there are people who don’t do piratism. Just like I don’t.
I think Heroes release for PC was great, after all little bugs it had! Riders was and still is a pain in ass in PC, but I doupt it wouldn’t be that on conloses, too! Also, Sonic DX and Mega Collection plus releases were really great PC releases, too!
I’ve planned on bying console for YEARS now, and still, I have no such money for that, and plus, we would need to buy another TV so we could play on console, and that costs a lot! Like 300-400 euros from console (PS3 did cost 400 euros in the beginning) plus about 500-1000 euros from new TV. That’s too much!
Plus, PC games are cheaper than console games, I prefer cheap priced games C:
Wow, the petition already has 447 signatures
Um guys petitions mostly never work.
@Chao93
You don’t need new TV for play ps3 or 360 or Wii
I have new consoles and I use TUBE TV,I planned in 2011 buy a new tv =)
@ Chao93
Well, more people pirate than not pirate so it’s kind of a big risk.
What type of monitor do you have and what type of computer do you have? You can actually hook up a PS3 and XBOX 360 to a computer monitor with an HDMI cable. And as painful as it is, sometimes the best things cost a lot… like the PS3… or in my case, a Keyboard workstation ($3,400 for the one I’m wanting…) and do you have some type of working TV? You don’t have to have an HD TV to play a game on the HD consoles. You can still play them in SD.
@ SonicLegends
Yes, but they are assuming that since SEGA is listening to suggestions that this *will* work, which obviously means that they want to piss off more of the fanbase by making the game delayed longer than it already is. Really, the quicker I can review and hopefully enjoy this game, the better, I had to scrap almost all of my Sonic related summer plans after the delay. I mean, one delay is great for what they want to do, but if SEGA caves in (which I guarantee you they won’t) then the game will be delayed more because fans can’t be happy with being able to play the game on one console, or on their iPod Touch or iPhone, I mean seriously, the game comes out near Christmas, ask mommy and daddy for a 200 dollar iPod touch
I wouldn’t mind a PC port at all. No matter what, people are going to find ways to pirate things, or at least get around them to play it.
The only copy that will see pirates is the Wii one since it is the only one that is extremely easy to hack and put illegal games on. I’m not sure if it’s possible to do the same when you jailbreak an iPod though.
@ edge
The computer I use for playing games doesn’t have HDMI, and our TV is kinda old. And, the new TV is kind of an demand from my family to get a console. (I still live with my family you know.)
@ Lucas Hinz
I don’t think there is any Tube TV for sale in Finland…?
Ah, never mind… I do like PC more than consoles… If it doesn’t come to PC, then be it… I guess I’ll just focus on buying games which comes for PC…
Alright guys, this is how I see it. It’s a great idea. Brings the game to computer players rather than just home console players. You can complain about piracy all you want, but look at all the games out on the PC already. Most of those companies seem to be doing just fine, don’t they? Piracy will always be a problem, but that shouldn’t stop a company from pleasing their fans. I garuntee if they were to do this, the pirate rate would not be more than the purchase rate until after atleast two to three months. And besides, a PC port would be easy for them to make without using that many resources to make it.
You can still use your old TV. You can play the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 with composite cables
Petition now has 700 sigs!
