Security on the Minds of Fans
Should Sega representatives be truly listening to their fans, here’s something else to consider: A clear majority of those polled want to see Sonic the Hedgehog 4 on disc to prevent future leaks. That’s according to the results of the latest TSSZ News @Issue poll.
We asked if Sega should consider releasing future Sonic 4 episodes on disc solely to protect the game from leaks. Out of 613 polled, 51 percent voted “Yes.” A quarter of the poll’s participants, 25 percent, voted “No.” Seventeen percent of participants said “Maybe,” and just seven percent were unsure.
The poll follows a series of video releases intially through Sonic Retro channels, in which a playthrough of the entire game was recorded and leaked–detailing an excess of spoilers in the process.
A new poll is now available for you to vote on. You can discuss the latest results in our discussion area below.

If it never got leaked then they would not have delayed it to fix it.
please release it on disc
Better yet, how bout we just delay the Sonic 4 even further and have the whole game with all the episodes release in summer of 2011?
@ Sonic Unleashed
I think I may post something that you may not read that I wrote about releasing this game in the disc format earlier
I really think that all people who want this on a disc are just plain ignorant. They do not realize that when the game becomes a downloadable title, that means that SEGA does not have to pay to make the disc with the game, so because they knew people would get upset over it being download only, and some people not having broadband internet, they released it on the App store, because they know that iPhone and iPod touch are popular. That way Sonic fans who don’t have wifi or broadband could get it from their 3G network on the iPhone, or iTunes app store for the Mac or PC so they could put it on their iMachines. And if something happens to your computer, or if the app gets taken down, you still have it on the iPod to put back on your computer so you’ll have it forever! SEGA thought a lot about this guys, and digital download is the best way to go.
Also like me and my friend were talking about New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The biggest complaint people had with the game is that it was so short that it could have been released on the DS. So if they do release this on disc with all the episodes, 1 it will be extremely short and feel like a waste of $50. Also, nearly everyone who cares would already own all the episodes if SEGA did decide to make a disc with all the episodes which means that SEGA would lose money because normal people would not want to pay again.
@Mike I see where your coming from and I agree with ya I wish the game came out in 2011 instead just because 2011 is like Sonic’s 20th annivarsary.
@ SonicLegends
I think having a Sonic 5 would fit better for his 20th. I mean both are genuinely considered milestones for many things.
I’m awaiting someone to reply to my message… a certain someone will reply… just waiting…
Sonic adventure 3 for his 20th Annivarsary will be better
The very idea of releasing individual episodic games retail just to avoid leaks is prepostorous, just because of the costs involved to both SEGA and the consumer. It is in no way efficient or wise to go this route. If SEGA REALLY want to prevent leaks, they should just crack down on security.
For Sonic haters Sonic diying on his 20th will be special… lol.
yeah, Disc version please. Sega it would save you having to lose lots of custormers by then hacking Ep 2`s and 3 sometime this year…
And about delaying it further… Only if ALL of the ep`s came out on that day/month. 0.o#
yeah actually thats better…
And, you know I don`t think Sega is improving the game, cause when I played the hacked one, on my mates xbox, it seemed pretty 100% to me. yeah maybe a tweak or 2 needed but that tweak or two wouldn`t take all year to do. I reakon its so the Hackers can get annoyed at the final product if it is improved and all..
still fun game ^_^ he`s deleted it now though
@edge: And what about those who don’t have all that iShit and/or can’t download the game for whatever reason? How are they gonna play the game without a disc release?
I agree that a disc release of one episode at a time is stupid, but I really cannot see why SEGA can’t put the entire game onto disc.
@Kits: There are two reasons.
1. Cost: Games cost money, a LOT. Sonic 4 may be a bit smaller in budget, but it still costs a lot to produce it. The engine, graphics, software, beta-testing, shipping, and rating all add up to possibly at least three million dollars. Plus, disks aren’t cheap. They can cost a ton if you spend so much on them. The stores also have to buy the copies so they can sell them to their customers. Putting the game, even as a whole, DLC is a cost-effective and clever way to gain money without possibly losing much.
2. The length. When the games were released in cartridges, the games couldn’t be all that long due to technology limitations. Games at around eight to sixteen-bit have very limited memory. S3&K was rushed, yes, but the other reason it was split into two was because putting the whole game in one cartridge would overload the hardware. The lock-on is like a plug-in. Today, the disks hold way more memory, and thus, people expect there to be a lot of content. If there’s little content, your customers will feel ripped off, and Sega will LOSE money as a result. The game may be five episodes, and if there are four zones (three acts) each, the game can still be short by some people’s standards. Yes, quality over quantity should be the standard, but quantity really DOES matter to a lot. One of SatBK’s main criticisms was its short length.
Disc release of the complete game once all episodes has been launched? Yeah. Disc release for every episode? Nope. Disc release JUST to prevent security problems? Hilarious.
Do people know that some games get leaked anyway like 3 months before launching, being on a disc? Do people understand that this same episode would cost $30 or $40 at least in disc over $5-$10 that will cost as DLC??
Sonic community never stops to amaze me, both for the good and for the WTF moments.
dhuuuuuu, you dumbs, ofcourse when people talk about a disc release , they’r talking about releasing all episods (complete game) dhuu…
egde@: get a life dude… do some sports or something, get a life
There are cries for SEGA to give Sonic up—let him die before any more damage is done to his name. I can’t sympathize with this crowd, this sentiment is a little over dramatic.
In a sense, Sonic will have to die. SEGA needs a serious think-tank to develop a new vision for the hedgehog, and then needs to conduct extensive testing to ensure they create a new universe for Sonic that is engaging, challenging, and appropriate for all ages. This is not a Sonic we have yet, but it’s the Sonic we’ll need if there’s going to be any serious future for this series.
But SEGA since SONIC UNLEASHED is doing the right thing, and should continue…
i know should they do sonic 4 on disc to buy, sonic last story book for 20 anerversity, sonic unleashed in 2012, sonic 4 ep 2 2012, sonic ep 3 2013
release it so i do not have to pay wii points to get every episode they should just delay it and make it an event like sonic 2. if the game was released on disc it wiould get SEGA back in the game. they are a multi billion dollar company that can handle the shipping and manufacturing costs. i do not see any problem here.
Again, Sonic Unleashed (SU), you say you want to make the fanbase better but you still attack me… hilarious.
And for your information, I have a life, otherwise I wouldn’t be alive. And I hate sports. Again, you should know who your talking too before you should tell them something. And by the way, again, SEGA would not release this on disc if they are a smart company. Read my first post and you will understand why.
@ KitsOkami
Chances are, nearly every Sonic fan has an iPod Touch, iPhone, XBOX 360 or PlayStation 3. Also, chances are, they have DSL internet. They can use the DSL to get online on the PS3 or 360, or they can use iTunes on their computer as a method of getting it on the iMachines. So barely anyone is going without this game. It would be a stupid idea for SEGA to release the game on disc. And don’t anyone say “what about the sonic fans with no internet?”, They have to have internet, otherwise they wouldn’t be heard complaining…
No offense, Edge, but I am unable to play this game when it is released, because I am not allowed to connect game consoles to the internet. Oh, but what about iPod Touch? My parents won’t let me have an iTunes account.
However, I do understand why you would think a disc release is stupid. This game has the potential of being short, so unless they implemented bonus features of some kind onto the disc, it just wouldn’t be worth buying, and they could lose money over it.
On the other hand, many short games have sold a large amount of copies, so maybe SEGA could risk taking a gamble at this one?
In conclusion, I’m not sure. A physical release is something I would like to see, but it could be risky.

PS:By the way, Edge, unfortunately, not everyone has acess to DLC, even if they have a compatible console. Please think about that before your next post.
