Sonic Can Has Cheezburger? Maybe
Does a Sonic game with levels made out of giant pastries, jello, and cheeseburgers with an Unleashed style mix of 3D action and 2D platforming sound good to you?
If so, you may want to take notice of an eyewitness account posted on Find the Computer Room by forumer shadowthehedgehog, who claims to have read the Sonic Colors preview contained within the latest Nintendo Power a bit earlier that most.
No scans were provided, leading to some fan suspicion (and why we’re filing this as Rumor), but the account was fairly descriptive, speaking of two featured zones: Tropical Reservoir and Sweet Mountain. The latter is where pastries come into play.
Gameplay wise, the account speaks of a mix akin to Sonic Unleashed, with more an emphasis on 2D platforming. The description also claims only Sonic is playable. If accurate, that in part corroborates in part with information we exclusively brought you last Thursday.
There are also some details regarding the DS edition, including some striking similarities to the Sonic Rush franchise. We have the information quoted below. We’ll know for sure when scans surface next week, if not earlier. If you can help provide scans to affirm this information, we ask that you reach us via our News Tips system–as Playx4 did for this tidbit.
The game looks pretty nice, think of it as a prettier looking version of the Wii version of Unleashed, the two zones that were featured were Sweet Mountain zone, and Tropical Reservoir zone, and the former is a mountain of pastries, the said they wanted to include the crazy level designs from the old games, which is fine by me. It also said that in the 3D sections it will focus more on running from A-B akin to the Daytime stages of Unleashed, while the 2D sections will be more for platforming.
The DS version, can easily be called Sonic Rush 3, it looks exactly like those games, even the tension gauge is there, they said it would be similar to the Wii version.
Tails appears in the story but Sonic will be the only playable, they said the story is simple, light, and goofy, which is fine by me. Knuckles, and Shadow may also make an appearance in the game.

Sounds like great news and I hope Knuckles appears I was a bit sad he wasn’t in Unleashed.
I prefer light-hearted and goofy Sonic
But I remember the last time NP said Shadow and Knuckles may appear, they didn’t…
I hope Amy is in it too
I’m also curious as to how Shadow would fit in to a goofy story…
@Piyoko14 I Hope Knuckles appears for the goofy story thing sounds like it fits him for being gulliable but seriously it feels as if Shadow has replaced Knuckles in being more popular and making more appearences in games.
Imagine Shadow nomming out on cheezburgerz & getting stuck in HUGE tubz o’ jello. . .
lolz
Sounds fun! I like fun in my Sonic… I hope at least Knuckles shows up, but I wonder how Shadow fits into cartoony bright funtimes.
It sounds more childish than Sonic Heroes……………I LOVE IT!!!
Shad says that he read it at a newsstand. If he can, he’ll get the photos soon.
Shadow and kunckles should be playable in the game that will make me so wont to get it even more
Shadow the Hedgehog has the worst fanbase of any Sonic character, period. It’s sad, but so darn true. I have nothing against Shadow but he does not deserve to be more popular and acclaimed then Tails, that is very wrong, especially the fact that Tails is still more iconic and has been in the Sonic series for a longer time. Shadow only benefits well when he’s Rouge’s love interest (he’s not as good as a loner, especially with all of these crazy fangirls around). I still wish Shadow was more of a comic-relief character that flirts with Rouge, because he would be better that way rather then what fans want him to be. However, I have nothing against Shadow reappearing in future games because he is Sonic’s rival after all, and it’s SEGA’s decision whether he should be in or not, as they made and own the entire Sonic franchise, as well as all the characters that come from it. It is their decision to decide what characters they put in the games, not yours, and you need to respect that. So don’t try to throw some hissy-fit just because you don’t like said character that appeared in said game. What if (for example) SEGA decides to put Shadow, Blaze or whoever as a secret playable character in a future episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4? I wouldn’t have a problem if they did that, and all I ask is you be the same. If they were to bring back the more recent characters, I hope that Marine the Raccoon from Sonic Rush Adventure makes a reappearance someday. They better not forget her, because she was awesome and she doesn’t have a playable role in a game yet, knowing that she was only a NPC in Sonic Rush Adventure. Marine also lacks a VA unlike most of the other Sonic characters, and it’s time to know what her voice sounds like for a change.
I desperately hope that Sonic Colors turns out to be great enough that people won’t whine or write negative reviews of it. It looks like an interesting game so far as what I’ve seen.
**Using Chaos Control, Shadow arrives at the Sweet Mountain zone**
Shadow: “Hmmm… SEGA told me to meet Sonic somewhere arond here for a new game called Sonic.. Colors??”
**He then looks up and observes the land full of pastries, bubbles, sugar, sweetness, and happiness**
Shadow: “What??….FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!”
I agree with Vulpine.
I do not believe this information.
I don’t believe it until I see it. And yes, it’s true that Nintendo Power tends to goof once in a while with a few mistakes or misconceptions. In the Star Fox Command issue back in 2006, for example: They say that Krystal is a cat, when the truth is that she is a blue fox. I just don’t understand what these folks are thinking sometimes.
I would not be surprised if more characters show up in Sonic Colors. After all, it’s SEGA’s decision to decide what characters should appear, as they’re the creators of the series, and the best thing we can all do is to respect it, whether we like it or not.
Man, this game is starting to sound really promising, though I don’t believe this information before I see the scans by myself X’3
..When this new issue will be released?
…If I ever buy a console. it’ll be Wii! 8D
@ Chao93
The next Nintendo Power issue will be on sale June 8th.
@Vulpine
I know what you mean if feels messed up how Shadow is the 2nd most popular character right now. It’s not that I hate him it’s just that for him to surpass both Tails and Knuckles who have been with Sonic from the classic days feels odd. Shadow is a good character with his backstory and how his rivalary with Sonic is. Out of all honesty he should be the 4th most popular character in my opinion. He has been a good character throughout SA2, Sonic Battle and I guess Shadow the Hedgehog. In the game guns and cursing were unesscary but this game kinda destroyed the plot of SA2 with Professor Gerald wanting revenge. Since his past is done and over with I barely have any interest in him now and just think of him as a ok good character.
One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, “Boys, I’m not turning
I’m headed for a land that’s far away
Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we’ll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
There’s a land that’s fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
And the birds and the bees
And the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs
Where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers’ trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
Oh I’m bound to go
Where there ain’t no snow
Where the rain don’t fall
The winds don’t blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
Come trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
There’s a lake of stew
And of whiskey too
You can paddle all around it
In a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
The jails are made of tin.
And you can walk right out again,
As soon as you are in.
There ain’t no short-handled shovels,
No axes, saws nor picks,
I’m bound to stay
Where you sleep all day,
Where they hung the jerk
That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
….
I’ll see you all this coming fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
I wonder if Crush 40 will cover this song for Sonic Colors?! XD
@HiFi maybe Ted Poley or Jaret Riddick from that soup bowling thing
@Vulpine.
I don’t intend to stick around for the inevitable flame debate this will undoubtedly spark, but I’m just gonna say it:
Shadow the Hedgehog has the worst fanbase of any character because he is a TERRIBLE CHARACTER. His concept almost completely lacks creativity. He is literally nothing more than Sonic the Hedgehog in angst mode. Same race, same abilities… just TO THE MAX. Where Sonic was created to be the “cool and edgy” image of the 90s, Shadow steps up to the plate to appeal to the new generation of kids, to whom a dark and brooding “Ultimate Life Form” is the new “cool”. How pathetic. Who the hell creates an ultimate life form in the image of a anthropomorphic hedgehog? And how boring is it that a character’s rival more or less has the exact same ability set? Might as well have said in Shadow’s back story that he was some sort of failed clone experiment… oh wait…
To me, Knuckles will always be Sonic’s rival, no matter how friendly they seem to have become lately. Having to fight him again in Sonic Adventure was a delight, and it is my deepest wish that someday they put him back in the role of rival, or even temporary villain. Shadow, on the other hand, is just a pathetic clone of the title character created to pander to this Hot Topic generation, and I will have none of it. He played a fitting role in SA2, and I would have been perfectly fine with him if he had stayed dead. There’s nothing wrong with a “dark” clone as a one-shot character, especially one so central to a pretty decent story. Instead, he gets brought back, given an even more ridiculous back story, a pair of guns, and is treated (or at least hailed as) a rival for a character with more charm, character, and personality than this hack of a fan-character has in his silly tuft of chest hair.
While it’s certainly possible that Shadow could eventually be used as an acceptable character once his absurdly retarded “past” stops being a point of interest in the game’s plot, I still believe that making him Sonic’s “rival” is an obscene bastardization that further proves his lack of originality. Instead of giving this new character a real identity and a personality that involves something more than petty rivalry and mumbling about Maria, they use this “Hot Topic goth Sonic” as a cliche plot device time and time again. If he makes it into the game, I guarantee there will be no good reason for him to be there. It will either be tied in to yet another a ridiculous (and probably unnecessary) plotline, or he will just be there as pure shameless fan-service.
It is an absolute shame that he has become so popular, surpassing much more creative, iconic, interesting, likable, and deserving characters.
With that all being said, I believe you are flat out wrong about how the franchise and its characters should be treated. By your logic, we should just all shut up and let Sonic Team continue making shitty games because it’s “their decision”. If it’s entirely their call which characters to use and how to use them, then it should also be entirely their call which games to make and how to make them.
Thus, Sonic 4 would probably not even have been made, and if it had, it would be a schlock of shit not based on fan opinions or desires, but based on whatever wacky-ass idea sounded good at the time, and it certainly t would not have received extra development time for the sake of fine tuning. Game developers make games to PLEASE US, not to “express their creativity”. They are not starving artists, they are commercial producers asking for OUR money. There is always a line to be drawn, of course, but the fact remains that our input should matter to them. If we scream loud enough they should listen. The problem, as always comes from deciding who to listen to and when, as there are always conflicting opinions.
i dont get it but only the game
You expect me to believe Shadow the Hedehog and Cake mountains can fit into the same sentence!?
I’m not saying most of that account is implausible, and I do believe it’s plausible, but I’m not sure about Shadow appearing in the game.
It seems SEGA wants to stay away from Sonic’s darker counterpart, sans, well, Sonic and the Balck Knight, of course.
How will this “goofy, light-hearted” game fit such a dark character like Shadow?
I really don’t see it.
Since when does this have anything to do with Sonic Colors? Shadow’s popularity, like plenty of renowned characters, doesn’t really make sense. The phrase the people don’t always know what they want, and as such some people maybe viewed more then others. My sister has a personal vendetta against Tailor Swift despite the fact she is adored by millions. Why, certain events can play to the favor of icons and people alike. Shadow’s popularity obviously comes from a change in the likes and dislikes of Sonic fans around the planet. Before Shadow came Sonic had plenty of rivals, however, none of them were your stereotypical cliche. Sure Knuckles withheld strength as immeasurable as Sonic’s speed, and a life style somewhat the opposite of Sonic. Though, their is something lacking, which would be that similar yet completely different aspects that some of the best cliched rivals seem to have.
Tails probably does deserve more recognition, though, I think Tails’ diminishing roles in games might have led to decrease in his popularity. Main Story wise he does seem to deviate from what made him such a marvel. His role from lovable sidekick to independent character hasn’t really been embraced enough by Sega. As such his character appeal may have lowered somewhat.
Lastly, in recent years society has slowly began to gear towards more darker heroes, or perhaps society has increased its desire for rebellion in the media. Shadow has become “lighter in this respect” however his nature is harder to read then most Sonic characters, and as such he seems more interesting to fans, especially girls, however, this seems to be a fad that has lasted for an incredible amount of time. Sonic in recent years may have departed from his 90s behavior, Shadow may get so much attention because some of his mannerism are similar to classic Sonic. Classic Sonic wasn’t necessarily as free as the wind, it was more of he wanted to do things his own way and his own beliefs, as a result he fought with those who had the opposite. The current Sonic is very similar to his past self, though he is painted more as guy with a “heart of gold” not the sort of fights for justice in his own way that no one can copy. I believe this rebellious streak is what Shadow embodies to a certain extent. Neither Tails or Knuckles posses this character aspect, and as a consequence their roles have decreased to that of supporting characters. Certain parts of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow should be considered when evaluating who should be which number in a popularity list.
I think Tails “independence” is the REASON for his downfall and decline in popularity. Turning him into a little whiz-kid genius has made him infinitely less interesting AND less charming. Being as smart as he is, he doesn’t have a lot of potential for growth (or opportunities to ever show any interesting sides to his personality) It’s almost sad how much more lovable he was as a sidekick with aspirations of becoming a hero as opposed to the Donatello ripoff he’s become.
The problem with Knuckles is that he has always had a more interesting history than the rest of the cast combined, and yet as a side-character the games never gives him an opportunity to shine. He’s more or less become the one trick pony, either hunting down emerald shards or breaking stuff with his now cliche strength. If the games ever offered KNUCKLES a significant chunk of the spotlight doing something other than shard hunting (like, I don’t know – PROTECTING the island), it would probably give his character much more room to be explored. Knuckles was initially a great rival and a great character, but it wasn’t until they started lumping him into the “heroes” bracket that he started becoming just another boring sidekick. Once upon a time, HE was the loner rebel Shadow fans have supposedly latched onto.
@SonicLegends and ChaoticFox
Hey, I was not trying to start any flame wars (I’m open-minded after all) but I am sick of people acting wacky or immature these days and I still wish everyone would respect each others’ opinion for a change.
Shadow is not a terrible character. People only get upset with him because of his fanbase, not who he is. All of this yaoi and crossover fanfiction that people create on sites like Deviantart and so on are the real problem, not SEGA’s creativity. The only reason why I dislike the fact that Shadow surpassed Tails and Knuckles as the second most popular character is that I’m a loyal fan of Tails and I don’t want Tails to be forgotten. And sad but true, it seems that some old-skool characters and franchises become long forgotten like they’re some pale shadow of the newer characters and franchises when they get beaten by them in popularity and acclaim. It’s good to see Tails tag along Sonic again, but I won’t throw any hissy-fits if Shadow appears in Sonic Colors or even Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It is SEGA’s decision whether he appears or not, as I said earlier. And you people have no right to make a fuss about it. That act is so immature and you should behave better then that. SEGA owns the Sonic franchise, not you, and it’s important to respect that fact. Even I respect that fact. Shadow also appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as an ‘Assist Trophy’ character, and if Sonic (and any other third-party character) were to return for the next Super Smash Bros. game, there is a chance that Shadow might be the second playable Sonic character in that game, even though I want Tails more.
And think of it this way: Shadow the Hedgehog was introduced in 2001, which is Sonic the Hedgehog’s 10th anniversary, and then Silver the Hedgehog was introduced in 2006, which is Sonic the Hedgehog’s 15th anniversary. Just because Sonic is the ‘main’ hedgehog of the series does not mean you would have to hate everyone else. Different people have different opinions, and there is nothing you can do about it. There is also no way you can do to change others’ opinions, as the only way to change opinions is that people would have to change them themselves. I would not be surprised if SEGA decided to introduce a new hedgehog on Sonic’s 20th anniversary because they’re the owners of the entire Sonic franchise and they can do whatever the heck they want with it, and there is nothing we can do about it. I am saying this because I respect copyrights (no matter if I like it or not) and I ask you to do the same.
It is always nice to know the characterization and backstories of each and every character, because it helps you get to know what the characters are like and so forth, and learning always have been an interesting thing to do for me.
Hmm… Sounds interesting. But I heard of so many rumors, so Pics or it didn’t happen.
I hope Shadow appears as a boss, same as Knuckles. It’d be nice if Tails at least follows Sonic around akin to the classics, but it doesn’t sound like it.
Regardless of circumstances, this game does sound like our next “Unleashed-esque” game, with the DS version working a lot like Rush.
Knuckles wasn’t in the launch trailer… somehow I don’t think he’s going to play a large part in the story, if at all. He could be sidelined for multiplayer along with Shadow.
… i wish i could play as other characters. even if they were just the equivelant of sonic, it’d be nice to play as someone else.
Okay, everybody just needs to chill down. Shadow can fit into a “goofy, light-hearted” game, even if there’s some insane plot device that makes everything have smiley faces. HE CAN FIT. Why could he not be a, say, comic-relief character? And there can be more than one. So Shadow walks in and sees sugars and happiness. And then maybe screams like a girl. I don’t know, SEGA will figure it out, guys. Quit whining about the unlikelyness of a character’s role. Jeebus.
I have nothing against Shadow, in fact, I like him as a character. And it’s NOT because he is some angsty freaking Maria obsessed head-banging the wall emo. Sure, his roles as far as being in the games get old. This Maria stuff is going to eventually get on my freakin’ nerves. How about SEGA makes him suddenly remember his past, maybe with the help of the emeralds, who cares, and then, in the suspense, kills himself? Sure, there would be flaming fan-girls, but SEGA does what SEGA wants. Sonic Team goes into that category, as well. QUIT WHINING. Who knows? Maybe one day SEGA will make Shadow have a concussion, and when he wakes, he’ll be as happy and cheery as Cream.
Guys, anything can happen. Really. Especially in video games. And hey, if you don’t like how the TRAILERS for a game looks, DON’T BUY IT. Or you could at least sit and wait a while and learn more about the game. You can’t look at a game that has just been recently put into trailers and say “That game is going to suck.”. I thought Sonic 2006 was going to utterly fail (and DO NOT FLAME ME FOR THIS. I am subject to my own opinions, as so is everyone else.) and I was very pleased on how it came out. Sonic Unleashed on the other hand, I thought was going to be a really cool game. It wasn’t. The storyline was original, I guess, but no. The gameplay was just no. So you can’t just look at the trailers and whatever and automatically say it’s going to suck, I’m not going to waste my time on it. You just have to wait and see.
And I must say I have to disagree with some of the people that have said that game developers and management have to please the audience, and give us what WE want. No they don’t. They might get less money from dropping a lot of their favorite audience members, but they don’t HAVE to do what we want. They are here to provide an array of entertainment into our boring lives. They are here to surprise us with something new and exciting that we shouldn’t get bored with easily and will keep us giving them our money. It’s a win-win situation. Get over it.
Guys, if a young teenager can figure all this out, then really? Should you rant about something as stupid? I hate people that rant. I’m simply here to try and straighten up this twisted hullabaloo that everyone’s gotten into. Hope I made myself straight, and don’t bother flaming if you feel this is necessary. I probably won’t be back to hear your complaints. Have a nice day~
personally, i dont think the sonic games have gone downhill at all in the last decade. sure, there not as great as the classic games, but that doesnt mean there complete shit either. i like the stories they put together for the 3D games. there darker and more dramatic. its kinda interesting to see sonic in those kind of situations. ill admit that sonic unleashed wasnt as impressive as it could have been, but it was still fun to play. the only thing i didnt like was the story basically. the game play was fine. and i liked sonic 2006 alot. it was easily the darkest sonic game there is. i mean, come on, sonic fucking died! my simple point though: the series is not going downhill. sonic has alot of competition right now. sega has to do new stuff in every game till they find a middle ground that works for them. i think another Sonic Adventure game would be awesome (not counting sonic unleashed. it was technically the third sonic adventure). the first two were by far the most popular 3D games made. adventure 1 and 2 style game play was simple, but it was still awesome. another topic. i think shadow could appear in sonic colors. true, hes gone down alittle in popularity since his own solo game (whick i didnt like very much at all really) but i dont think his story is nessessarly over just yet. i think he should be in at least one more game before they get rid of him. maybe have him die? not that i hate shadow, hes one of my favorites, but i think that dying would actually be a decent ending for him. knuckles will most likely be in the new game. he wasnt in unleashed, which was kinda odd, but theres no way his story is anywhere near finished. i can see silver coming back at some point too. didnt like him very much, but itll probly happen.
