ONM’s Sonic Colors Magazine Preview

With it, a Couple More Screenshots and Snark

Let’s take a breather from the E3 hype for a moment to bring you something just as noteworthy–details hot off the press from the UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine preview of Sonic Colors.

This is one of the more critical previews we’ve seen.  References to past Sonic failures litter the piece, including references to the Sonic Cycle, which they refer to as the Sonic Hype Cycle.  The ONM preview also classifies the Wisps as gimmicks, and clear references are drawn between Colors and the Super Mario Galaxy franchise.  Pot shots are also taken at games that weren’t so bad, like Sonic Heroes and Sonic and the Secret Rings.

That aside, the ONM preview claims there will be no multiplayer component, which is different from what we’ve previously heard.  In the end, the preview concedes that Sonic is at his best mimicking Mario elements, and believes this will be the equivalent of a all-daytime Sonic Unleashed:

The action is fast, the levels are nice and long, there are loads of different routes available through each level (even more than usual now thanks to the drill ability).  Even the music’s the same annoyingly catchy rubbish we’re always ashamed to say we quite liked.

ONM did publish a few previously unseen screenshots in their preview.  For that reason, we are relaying a portion of the preview in our gallery below.  ONM also published a quick Q&A with Takshi Iizuka, but no new information was revealed in the interview, so we don’t want to waste your time.  The scans are courtesy of SSMB forumer Stasis Colours.
