But Only Dreamcast Titles Planned
In a quick interview CVG held at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sega West president Mike Hayes said the company plans to have up to two dozen classic Dreamcast titles for sale via XBOX Live and the Playstation Network by Summer 2011.
“We hope to have somewhere between 18 to 24,” Hayes said, adding that the focus right now is solely on games produced for Sega’s last console. “With Dreamcast, we want to refocus people on that particular console. We want to make it more of a campaign… Confusing it by putting other [systems] in, we decided probably wouldn’t be the right thing.”
No elaboration was offered regarding what’s in store. But for the Dreamcast faithful, this is very good news, as it appears the cream of the crop from that era will be available once again for gamers old and new to enjoy. This pretty much all but confirms we’ll be seeing Sonic Adventure 2 on XBLA as well. I can’t imagine 24 DC games being on the Marketplace, with Sonic Adventure being one of them, but no SA2. Let’s just hope Sega doesn’t go too far with Sonic rereleases and put Sonic Shuffle on there as one of them.
This news is… all right….I mean I don’t really care about such games. I just like new titles!
Since Sega is able to emulate DC…let’s hope they can license a way to include some third party DC exclusives. I want Mortal Kombat Gold.
I don’t think it’s emualtion..I think they are porting from the source code.
Ok, we still need Crazy Taxi 2, Sonic Adventure 2 and the two Shenmues. Whatever Sega does I hope they don’t port Sonic Shuffle. Besides Sonic 06 and Shadow buying that game was the biggest regret of my life!
Ooga Booga and Chu Chu Rocket need to be rereleased on today’s consoles, because they really took advantage of the online portion back then and it’d be shameful not to see it come back since today is all about online gaming.
My point is valid, either way. I want third party DC titles.
Dude, SA2 would be cool if Chao Garden was online. Just sayin’, it’d sell like crazy. Also the multiplayer mode would be cool, but the variety should be like the SA2Battle GameCube version.
I’m going to sound like most people on the internet, but I hope they port Shenmue. I’d love to give that game a go without resorting to eBay.
Next year, I guarantee we will see Sonic Adventure 2 on XBLA and PSN the week of Sonic’s 20th anniversary. It would make perfect sense… And I would download both… the day they came out. Because I own nearly every SA2 piece of merchandise.
