Cue the IGNorant Remarks
Though Sonic games picked up five nominations in various categories, in turns out none were good enough in the eyes of IGN editors to be among the media megasite’s Best of E3.
In two categories, Epic Mickey won out; they were in Best Wii Game and Best Platformer. In the latter, both Sonic Colors and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 were nominated, while only Colors got the nod in the Wii category. The DS edition of Sonic Colors was also trounced by Super Scribblenauts in the Best DS game category. Sonic 4 couldn’t even etch out a win in the Best iPhone Game category, where a late entry, Puzzle Agent, took away the honor.
It’s said that it’s an honor just to be nominated, but if your opinion differs, there’s always the Best of E3 winners to be announced from 1UP.com. Gamespot will also hold two separate honors for E3 specific games: an Editor’s Choice and Reader’s Choice. With the latter, your influence can help spring Sonic back in the spotlight.

You were expecting any less?
I hardly consider any of these games the best of anything really so I’m not surprised they didn’t win. Sure they look fun, Colors particularly interests me, and Sonic 4 will be great if they fix it up, but Sonic Colors isn’t anything ground breaking, it’s just seems to have finally solidified Sonic in 3d (only took 11 or so years. Good God), and Sonic 4 could have been so much more, think DKCR, which has the right idea, take the FEEL AND CONTROL from the classic games after playing the originals RELIGIOUSLY FOR WEEKS and then coming up with NEW IDEAS. Not rehash zone with a slightly modified Sonic rush engine and a homing attack D:
” it’s just seems to have finally solidified Sonic in 3d (only took 11 or so years. Good God)”
I dislike blanket statements. SA1, 2, and (in my opnion) Heroes.
Thats all
Oh and dear god, Sonic 4 lost out to some random puzzle game on the iphone…..WTF?
Anyway that is still great.
@ Crysore: Well the blanket statement really only covers my opinion yes, I realize some people will disagree, and Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 could have been a great route to go if they kept working at it and made it less linear. Same goes for Sonic Heroes. They all needed work but they were ditched before they were made good. Sonic Unleashed would have been the same way, but that gameplay style was one of the only styles I know of that was taken and refined for improvement (SA2 did take SA1 gameplay for Sonic, but didn’t really improve anything IMO), This game, IMO seems to finally have given Sonic a good style in 3D. Now they just need to keep it and expand upon it for the future, much as how Mario games have done since Super Mario 64.
I still can’t belive Epic Mickey is even among them.
Anyway, it’s still really good to be nominated.
@Osnic: Why? Epic Mickey looks and sounds fantastic, it deserves the award.
Nominations are all well and good, but I’d rather see Sonic WIN something worthwhile for once.
I personally don’t see what’s so great about Epic Mickey.
Now Donkey Kong Country Returns on the other hand looks absolutely fantastic! That is a perfect example of platforming at it’s finest.
donkey cong crap, mario baah, Crash Bandicoot godd lol but SONIC RULE
Epic Mickey deserved them.

These are the nominations and awards SEGA games recieved,
Sonic 4 episode 1 recieved:
Reason to Live award (gamesradar)
Sonic colors DS recieved:
Best of e3 award (purenintendo)
I think that it’s good enough to see IGN optimistic about two Sonic games. That’s rare.
As for Sonic 4, I think the reason it won is because the physics aren’t even completed yet.
Ok I have no idea how the heck Super Scribblenauts beat Sonic Colors DS that game looks retarted…
Wow a Mickey game and puzzle game that gets old instintly beats Sonic!!!!! What’s wrong with that. Personally I think Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and of course Sonic 4 should have been the top three for best platformer with Sonic being 1st. But you know IGN is infamous for only liking foolish shoot um up games for lazy people.
Maybe Epic Mickey and the puzzle game won because they may actually be better than Sonic 4/ Colors. I find it refreshing for once some lesser known developers
to be able to get the spotlight.
based on what they showed at E3, i don’t see how anyone can be hyped about Epic Mickey. I mean, i’m not trying to blast the game or anything, but they did a horrible job of demonstrating the game. They talked so much about paint and thinner but that’s really all that the showed, was erasing paint, and painting it over again x.x what is the overall concept of the game x.x
iono, a lot of people are into it, but i’m gonna have to wait for some more hands on footage and probably even some reviews before getting that game x.x
oh wait, this is a sonic fansite XD… sorry :3
I don’t get why so many people are pissed at an opinion. Epic Mickey does look like a fantastic platformer. I’m even excited for it, and I never play Disney related games (aside from Kingdom Hearts). For the DS, I can also understand why scribblenauts won that, it’s always fun to be able to create anything and use it in a game. As for the puzzle game, I think it was sort of silly for it to beat Sonic 4, but an opinion is an opinion.
