In Another Interview, Yuji Naka Says He Did Play New Sonics at E3

“I’ve played them a bit,” he tells Destructoid

How’s this for mixed messages?  We were very careful yesterday to advise that time is a factor when responding to these E3 Q&As, especially when one of Sonic’s key creators, Yuji Naka, goes on the record to state he hadn’t played any of the new Sonic fare on display at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.  It was all very strange since several photos have since surfaced with him present at the Sega booth.

As it turns out, he did get around to it, and made it known in a separate interview with a separate media entity.  It was with Destructoid’s Dale North, and in it, Mr. Naka is careful not to give specific impressions of any particular title.  He merely praised Sonic’s continued ability to flourish in his absence:

Yes, I’ve played them a bit. I’m happy to see that Sonic is still growing after my departure. All the people that worked under me are still continuing the legacy of Sonic, and I’m glad to see that as well.

Realize that next year Sonic will be 20 years old. I look at it this way: 20 years of age is old enough to go out on your own, not relying on your father anymore. In that way, it’s good to take a step back and see what Sonic does from now.

Much of the remaining meat within the Q&A, as was the case elsewhere, revolved around Ivy the Kiwi?, due to release domestically by XSEED Games later this Summer.
