The One Thing Fans Can’t Influence
Though Sega community staff like to tout their placed fingers on the pulse of Sonic fandom as a means to influence the game’s direction, there’s one thing in the coming Sonic 4 series no one will have control over: the game’s core storyline.
That’s because it’s already written and has been divided into their respective episodes, according to the video interview below cable network G4 had with Sega’s Ken Balough. That’s a credit to what will be a finite number of installments for the next Sonic. In the video, you’ll also see Balough attempt to explain the direct continuity between Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and now Sonic 4. Balough has been the subject of much fan contention of late–did he get this one right?
We’ll continue to bring you developments on Sonic 4 as we approach its Fall release. Thanks to ThE InFoRmEr for sending this tip into us.

sounds interresting
Could there be more to the sneak preview at the end of the game than what we assumed from the leaks? I hope so!
The classic “Seeeegaaaa”, that was notable.
I’m sold. Sonic 4′s going to be amazing. ♥
SEEEEGAAAA ♥
I think I speak for all of us when I say Ken better not be bullsh*ting us about the ending showing more of episode 2, cause I swear if it’s just “that” cliffhanger from the leaks…
(EDIT – No threats to anyone living, please. -T)
He said that the Saga after S & K was the Death Egg Saga, Nice way to put it for the last 10 years of sucky sonic games.
This isn’t the first time he has called Eggman “Robotnik.” Great news for American fans, and any international fans that grew up with him being called “Robotnik”, rather than “Eggman.”
The plot is even thinner than Sonic 1 and hurt even more by it’s blatant fan-service why PR goons like Ken here try to build it up is beyond me.
My guess on the release date is 10/01/10 or 10/10/10
Apparently Bowser just can’t think of a plan of destroying Mario first then ruling the mushroom kingdom. Then again Sega does what Nintendont.
Sonic 4′s storyline in 5 words: justification for reused old content
@Eggfang
Sequels tend to that.
They should somehow bring back the Sonic CD theme into this game. Even if it’s just the speed shoe or something.
“Da-da-daah-daah-daaaaaah-daaaaaah…”
@Eggfang: Amen, bra’.
@n00neimportant: As long as they don’t bother with the crappy lyrics, then yeah, I’m all for it.
@n00neimportant i’d rather have the title theme/invincibility in sonic 4 the same as the Sonic CD prototype title theme
Ok, so reused content with no new imagination, Robotnik not trying to take over the world anymore, but just kill sonic………..WHAT????
Oh yeah, and really really over hyped by PR people just because it’s called Sonic 4.
Yeah, sure, it could turn out really well, but for now I’m a bit skeptical it’s falling in a few traps.
@ Ro9ge
Ken did say that if you collect 7 chaos emeralds and finish ep 1 the storyline will emerge from there.
This guy looks so fat.
I love this guy, he’s a awsome SEGA dude
It would be AMAZING if they reveald Sonic Colors for the Xbox
@Sonic Unleashed (SU) Ruby is an awesome sega dude not this fatso
The idea that Eggman is trying to eliminate Sonic so he can’t get in the way of his plans anymore is good. The “revisiting and improving the best of his inventions” part could very well wear out its welcome long before the story premise behind it, however.
You know what would make me really happy? If once you buy all the episodes you can link them up into one big game so you can just continue the game right off the bat.
