Goldstein: “I think people are going to love it”
Neatly tucked in between FIFA ’11 and Professor Layton & the Unwound Future on IGN’s revision to their most anticipated games of 2010 is a title you may be surprised to see: Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Granted, of the top 25, the game found itself at #23. Progress is progress, though, and more progressive were the kind words select IGN staffers gave to the next 2D Sonic–a stark contrast to the lambasting staffers have given both recent games and its fans.
IGN Editor in Chief Hilary Goldstein, who couldn’t be bothered to finish Sonic Unleashed for his review, had better things to say in the article about Sonic 4 and the move toward 2D platforming:
Sonic the Hedgehog on Genesis is one of my favorite games of all time and it’s great to see SEGA finally get it – it’s time to stop with all this 3D Sonic crap and go back to 2D platforming. I think people are going to love it.
The top title chosen by IGN staff was Fallout: New Vegas.

Sigh, I hate how people complain about the 3d sonic games and how they say they are crap. Dam 2d fanboys … -.-
3D crap? You know, something that EVERYONE IN THE FUCKING WORLD IS DOING?
I wouldn’t be this annoyed if he elaborated on what made the 3D Sonics bad to begin with, but he fucking didn’t. I thought with Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, IGN might have chilled out for a bit, but turns out they didn’t. Yes, they made a 2D Sonic game, but by this logic, Sega has been “getting it” for the past 9 fucking years with the Advance, Rush and Rivals series.
Congrats Goldstein, you (and others like Matt) have, yet again, made predictably stupid summations to another Sonic game. Oh, and I don’t care if anyone else says the games really were bad, and even if this one turns out to be really good, you sir still can’t write for crap, and mocking us otherwise still won’t change a thing.
Sorry, but good GOD, even a positive response to Sonic, and they still piss me off!

My thoughts exactly. If he just said that the 3d games had problems but has high hopes for the 2d game it would be fine but nooo, he has to say it like Sega is stupid or something. Sonic Unleashed was only a test game and Colors is the beginning of good Sonic 3d games. Maybe he should wait for Sonic colors to come out then judge it.
I’m actually surprised Sonic colors isn’t in that list.

Me “I think people are being fooled into thinking that this is anywhere a decent game” It’s pathetic how easily the press have become sega’s pawns in selling Sonic Advance 4 as the true sequel to Sonic 3……shameful and dishonest.

Naw, I’m not saying 4 is bad, just I am more excited about Colors.
Whenever I read anything from IGN, I just get the idea they’re a bunch of testosterone filled, FPS/ massive refrigerator men touting, 20-25 year olds with one too many diet cokes.

I do approve of that statement. To be honest with you, I think IGN just said that because they that is what they see on the internet a lot.
They just called Sega “crap”.
Why should we take this guy seriously when he wrote a negatively bias review of Unleashed based off of 20 minutes of play time?
Even if most of what he had said was true, I still wouldn’t take his word for Sonic 4 just yet.
Unfortunately for Mr. Goldstein, they won’t stop making 3D titles at this rate.
Ha, (besides the hundreds of thing’s that are already wrong with Sonic 4 that I spare myself to mention now), he seems to think it’s going to be good because it’s in 2D not because it’s well designed or anything!
For fucks sake, YOU CAN make an good 3D Sonic if you got FUCKING TALENTED people who can to the job right, look at Sonic Jam and try to tell me, it wouldn’t have been great.
Here’s a hint IGN: if you’re going to make an article or review on anything Sonic-related in the future, don’t give us the biased views from someone who claims to be “professional” yet didn’t bother playing a quarter of a game. Thank you.
It was obvious that guy is a moron since it was player error that made the footage of Unleashed look bad; not the game design itself.

They would prob just ignore it. But seriously just because Shadow and Sonic 06 were bad games doesn’t mean sega can’t make a good 3d sonic game.
Sonic unleashed was a “Alright” Sonic game that was going on right path but just didn’t need a werhog. But I mean you gave it a 4.5 because of the night stages? And shrek games get scored higher then that?!?!?
