Sega “Working on a Solution” to Sonic Birthday Contest Rigging

Still, Finalist Voting Remains Open

Sega of America community manager Kellie Parker affirmed to TSSZ News this afternoon that the company is aware of what she calls an “issue” regarding irregular voting patterns in the Sonic Birthday Contest we told you about this morning.

“We’re looking into a solution,” Parker said.  “We will have more information soon.”

Until that information is revealed, Sega continues to allow contest voting on both sides of the Atlantic.  As of the time of this article’s publication, users can still vote on the top 10 finalists, of which some may have vote tallies improperly inflated.

Parker also quelled growing concern at Sega’s own boards over the contest mishandling, urging participants and observers alike not to contact the company or its marketing partner, Extra Mile Marketing, over the matter.  This, after phone numbers were posted on the boards urging those perturbed to voice their frustration directly.

“It is not necessary to contact us, our support teams, our legal team, or Extra Mile Marketing about this issue,” Parker said.

Many fans have called for the current results to be thrown out, or for winners to be determined internally.  But the bottom line is while Sega is internally investigating, the contest page–the core of the conflict–remains open and able to be manipulated.  TSSZ News will continue to cover this unfolding story as developments warrant.
