Sonic Classic Release Delayed to Late Summer

Dev: “I don’t want it to be a Sonic The Hedgehog 2006″

Those anxiously awaiting the final release of fan project Sonic Classic will have to wait a bit longer.

Though developer Hez was previously shooting for a release this month, yesterday on Sonic Retro he pointed to a not quite finished product, along with work and school duties, in explaining the delay.

“This does not mean it’s not going to be released soon, just not as soon as I anticipated,” Hez said.  “The number one reason I am delaying this is because I don’t want it to be a Sonic The Hedgehog 2006. I am going to clean up as many bugs as I can out of this thing. If I’m releasing it, its going to be good, playable, and fun.”

Hez discussed a revised timetable of late August or early September for Sonic Classic’s release, but is careful not to refer to it as a deadline.  That extra time will also be spent adding features based on fan feedback.  Among unlockable extras will be playability with the Sonic 1 sprite set.  Hez is also seeking additional input for more content.

That’s not all.  Once Classic sees release, Hez plans to continue support via “revision patches,” which will fix bugs and add even more content.

We will let you know once Sonic Classic sees formal release here at TSSZ News.
