It’s Not at SAGE, But it Should Be
Though the Sonic Amateur Games Expo now represents fan work across an array of franchises, one notable but neglected character both this year and through much of the past is NiGHTS.
How coincidental the timing is, then, that Kentilan chose this week to reveal NiGHTS: Lost Reverie to the general public. It is a fully 3D fan game–albeit a short one in full form–but it looks very good, better and cleaner than many 3D Sonic fan games.
Only three levels are playable in Lost Reverie. What is available carefully recreates the NiGHTS experience, from character modeling to the score links and attacks, to the classic sound effects. Only available for Windows, the 24 MB fan game is available for your playing pleasure here. To entice you, you can review a gameplay video and several screenshots from the fan game below in our gallery. It may very well be the best non-SFG not at this year’s SAGE.

Oh man, this is sweet.
It’s nice that somebody has finally tried to do something like this. Controls look a bit stiff, though, and level design feels very empty.
O_O
I was totally NOT expecting that.
Thanks a lot Tristan, I really appreciate it.
OMG, this is almost on par with the actual game itself! This is awesome for being a fangame!
OH geeez ultimate awsomeness
Very awesome footage! I was surprised how detailed the background and certain objects were- I agree with Ryan Bloom that it does still feel a bit empty. There are too many types of fonts used for the HUD- maybe they should be a bit bigger and more distinctive? More special effects should be used, especially for NiGHTS’ trail, and maybe zoom the camera in a smidge more?
Again though it looks fantastic. Makes me want to play the Wii game(since I don’t own the Saturn game.. >.< ).
