Video of Changes to the New Build
It’s become evident the build of Sonic Colors for the Wii at Gamescom in Germany is much improved over the E3 one.
Those changes are both cosmetic and in level mechanics, and we have two videos that demonstrate such below. Both are off screen. The first, from Spindash.de, showcases a revised opening and title sequence to the game, followed by additions to the levels’ title cards. The second is another Youtube video credited to Console-News.de, and it’s a much closer look at Tropical Resort, its alternate routes, and how the Wisp power helps players reach them.
Both videos are available below.

Not gonna watch them, can’t spoil the game for myself XD
For once in the last 3 years I would like to play a Sonic game and be surprised when I play it lol
I’m loving how the game is coming along though, totally epic!
@Jakeiii: The videos don’t really spoil anything significant, unless you don’t wanna know what the newly-revealed Wisp powers are.
That title screen is beautiful BTW, and I never thought I’d say that.
Love how simple the game is. Hope it does well when released.
Less then 3 months from the games release, and no negative reveals? This is unusual
I am very impressed with this game. I can’t believe I am finally looking forward to a sonic game without much worry behind my excitement.
He played very well but didn’t get S rank, I though it is easy to get it.
@Gooch: Well, there’s the Green Wisp, but that depends on your tastes.
Personally, I have no problem with it.
it plays a lot easyer than unleashed.. but i didn’t know if that was a good thing, i played it for short. i was there
This is the first 3D Sonic without any alternate playstyles, aside from the gimmicky storybook games.
@SonicX2: actully he didnt! he did well but not very well! He did some stupid steps but still the gameplay awosome!
@SonicX2 I played the E3 build and S-Ranked both acts and the boss. So yeah, it is pretty easy to get an S.
I love this game, I can’t watch those, to not spoil the game
…OHHH MY GOD. Ever since this game was announced I have been MADLY excited, and holy crap. AM I GONNA LOVE THIS WHEN I GET TO PLAY IT~ ♥
i think this is gonna be my new fave Sonic game!
Those wisps surrounding Sonic sure does look familiar.
Sonic Colors is getting a makeover, too and not just Sonic 4? Oh dear. I hope it stops whiners from complaining or whatever else. I want a good experience with Sonic, not a flame war. I want everyone to be happy.
I have to admit I had no idea that Sonic Colors was getting a makeover as well. I didn’t find anything that needed it, not that I have a problem with refining a game to become hands down awesome.
@Vulpine
I doubt that will ever happen. You just can’t make everyone happy. People enjoy being negative for no reason whatsoever. However, I do know that this is an epic year for SONIC fans that are, of course, actually excited for these upcoming games. Such as myself.
@Silverwind
Better happy then sad, angry nor depressed. While I am aware that people are opinionated about various things, there is no need to be so darn negative or crazy about it.
@Vulpine
I agree its crazy as well as being really negative. There are opinions that don’t make any sense all especially when there is nothing positive about it. I mean who in their right mind likes that type of stuff. Which is why I don’t understand why we all can’t be constructive about our opinions about this series instead of attacking others or name calling someone. Its like with Sonic 4 and all of the ridiculousness that has happened lately.
Or like with Sonic Colors, IGN and various other websites are saying that its copying Super Mario Galaxy, I mean are you serious? Isn’t that the same with other series, you know to take ideas to make something new in your own way. It happens all of the time. The power ups here in Sonic Colors may look familiar but, definitely not the same. Like for example the Yellow Wisp Drill, sure its like the drill from Super Mario Galaxy 2, BUT can Mario’s drill go fast and the player having the ability to steer the drill. No, I don’t think so. So what if its in outer space, its new for the series just like it was for Super Mario Galaxy in 2007. Isn’t it a good thing that Sega is being creative rather than making more of the same? Which brings me back to what I was originally saying as to why are we complaining? Isn’t all that Sega is doing a good thing? Why can’t we be happy that Sega is being serious about this series that we love so much.
I can’t tell you how happy I personally am that Sega is doing all of this for us. How can we the fan base not be happy that Sega cares about our, civilized, opinions and try to give us what we want? It stumps me when I read these downright negative comments that even complain about Sonic’s look that we have had for 10 years now. How or for that matter why is that relevant at all?
@Silverwind
The thing is, that, with all the many different people who like Sonic, some may have different opinions then other, which lead to these pointless complaints and flame wars. I personally think that Sonic 4 is going to be a great game (same with Sonic Colors), yet people still whine and complain about it. I wish they would stop their immature whining and accept new Sonic games as who they are, not what they want them to be. SEGA is the one who owns the Sonic franchise, so let them do whatever they want with it. In fact, they are doing a good thing, and people should be happy with the Sonic franchise if they love it so much. It makes me sad when people whine, flame and complain about a video game that they love.
In fact, I prefer the modern Sonic character designs over the classic ones, because I’m an anime/manga fan and it seems that the modern designs are more anime-style. I don’t know if those who hate the modern design prefer the old designs from the classic games or the designs from the old cartoons. I have nothing against Sonic SatAM, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog nor Sonic Underground but I like Sonic X the best of all Sonic shows because the designs stay true to the games (I still wish they would make a new season of Sonic X with the newer characters such as Blaze, Silver, Marine and the Sonic Riders birds, either that or they should make a new Sonic anime with every character from the games and with the new voice actors/actresses). Sonic SatAM may be a good show with the strongest female characters but it also has been abused by the furry fandom (Before Shadow the Hedgehog was introduced as a character, the obnoxious fanfic writers were obsessed with characters like Sally, Bunnie, and so on). The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog may be funny, and is a classic show, but so many Internet meme fans obsess over it and go crazy (I am looking at you, YouTube Poop!). Sonic Underground was interesting but it lacks Tails and far too many people bash it for an unknown reason. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Sonic SatAM, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic Underground, but the two animes (Sonic X and especially Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie) deserve positive reception, too. And I still wish people would get over the modern designs, especially since Sonic and company had this design since Sonic Adventure and the Dreamcast were introduced 11 years ago.
People act immature and complain no matter what. I am just happy that Sonic i going to have a good year with these new games coming out (Then again, I enjoyed Sonic 2006). I’m also happy that SEGA learns something from their mistakes and improves the Sonic series. I think that Sonic fans should be happy with that, not fighting each other all the time.
@Vulpine
Yeah it could be worst, SEGA could have ignored us and have all ready released Sonic 4 instead of improving it. On that note about SEGA listening to us, we the Sonic fanbase are actually very blessed that SEGA cares. There Namco’s Tales RPG series that I know of that where their fanbase is constantly asking for them to localize more Tales games on their facebook page. However, Namco is ignoring them instead of making them happy. Which is a shame.
You know the first Sonic game that I ever played was Sonic 3 for Genesis, however I was young and I didn’t think much about it. It just didn’t get me that excited at all. Then when I played Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast, I was like WHOA, this is so freakin’ awesome and I was hooked. To this day when I think about the game that had the most impact on me when I started playing video games and it was Sonic Adventure.
I am a anime and manga fan as well. I watch whatever interests me whether it be a anime from the past or one that is currently airing in Japan like Amagami SS. I love Amagami SS. Personally, I would love to see another Sonic anime series with new characters and whatever else. It would be pretty cool to watch. It would actually be the best way other than Sonic racing games, to use them in a big storyline or something since we are content with playing as just Sonic right now.
@Silverwind
It is nice to see someone who understands. I also watch anime (and play video games) of both old and new. I wish people today would find out more on the history and latest news of various things rather then being 1990s nostalgia purists (people whine on how they want their beloved Disney Afternoon cartoons back in the air. Oh geez, come on.) or do nothing but get into the “hottest” trends or just like what’s popular these days (*cough* memes *cough*).
For me, my first Sonic game was Sonic 1 for the SEGA Genesis back in 1991 (I have known the series since the beginning). It is amazing how the series changed and improved all these years.
@Vulpine
I think that our opinions are very similar so you bet I understand. I have never felt as other people have said, “I feel betrayed by the Sonic series”. Sure there have been times where the Sonic series has had its low points but, what series doesn’t have those times? Mario isn’t perfect as everyone claims it to be.
I have to be honest these “1990s nostalgia purists” scare me because that is so creepy that they want that 1990 nostalgia feeling with Sonic and nothing else. I can understand wanting that nostalgia feeling sometimes like with Sonic Adventure that is being released onto XBL and PSN. Which I am buying by the way but, to want to have a complete carbon copy of Sonic 1, 2, and 3 were Sonic looks like his former self in Sonic 4 or that a palm tree doesn’t look right. That is where I have to draw the line because that is too ridiculous to me. Thank God, SEGA isn’t listening to those people and staying firm that they want Sonic to be himself, that I had originally thought, we had all accepted for 10 years now.
I think it is wonderful to have a game like Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors. To have the retro and the modern Sonic that has now found its edge in 3D thanks to Sonic Unleashed. Its great to have Sonic games from both worlds that has made the Sonic series what it is today. Stand aside Nintendo because its SEGA’s time to shine this fall.
@Silverwind
Yeah, it is wonderful to have games like Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors. I am really hoping that I will get a chance to buy and play Sonic 4 sometime in my life, since none of my consoles are online or Wi-Fi at this point (so I can’t shop anything at the Wii Shop Channel, Playstation Store or X-Box Live yet until my parents teach me how to set things online and such) and that Sonic 4 is a downloadable game rather then a retail game, which is going to be trickier to buy it as opposed to buying the other Sonic games.
As for favorite Sonic characters, I like Tails, Sonic, and Blaze the most. Tails is getting an awesome new VA now (Kate Higgins, a.k.a. Sakura Haruno from Naruto). I mean, who doesn’t love the Naruto anime/manga series?
Connecting to the internet isn’t all that hard, though I will have to admit doing it for myself was a big deal for me. There was this game that I needed to have last year called Flower for my PS3. I finally got to download it one year ago and 6 months after it came out. In my personal opinion, I definitely prefer Sonic 4 in disc form though. I am not a big internet person with my PS3, in fact I love single player games more than anything. That is the way I like it when I play a Sonic game too.
Thankfully my PS3 has WIFI so getting Sonic 4 and Sonic Adventure won’t be hard. I love the PSN network because its free ‘period’. While the XBL costs money to even use so I decided to have a PS3 instead. I don’t have any games that I would care to download on Wii so I don’t use the internet part of it.
When I first played a Sonic game which was Sonic 3. My favorite characters were Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Then when I played my next Sonic game, Sonic Adventure, Eggman became another favorite to me as well. So long story short my favorite characters are more than 3, actually I have 5. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Eggman. People can say what they want about Shadow but, to me he is pretty cool.
You know I don’t have a problem with a change in voice actors usually. I just don’t like the anxiety in wondering whether or not they are any good or not. I hope that Sonic, as well as Tails will sound like the Sonic and Tails that I know and love. It just makes me wonder as to what was wrong with the 4kids group. I liked them and I didn’t have a problem with any of their voices. Though I am thankful that SEGA kept the voice actor for Eggman because I really can’t imagine Eggman without Mike Pollock’s fantastic effort that he puts into the character.
I do like Roger Craig Smith because he is in some of my games that I own and I have heard him in Bleach and Naruto Shippuden, so I suppose he will do just fine same for Kate Higgins. Though I do think of Sakura Haruno when I think of Kate Higgins. I also think of her role in one of My Favorite Anime of all time that I own, as Talho Yuki in Eureka Seven.
@Silverwind
Change isn’t always a bad thing, as some changes can be good (Like character designs, which improve for the better, since the artist/designer improves his/her drawing skills as time goes by). Hope that the new Sonic games succeed, just to spite all those whiners who complained and wrote negative reviews for the recent games in the series.
